I've spent a bit of time in the Falkland Islands myself.

I'm supposed to be going on a bird-watching trip at some point. Probably after the Cortina is finished and I have more spare time and money.

the landscape is very bleak and rugged, beautiful though. I have some aerial photos somewhere that I took when I went up for a tour of the islands in an RAF C130. Getting buzzed by a couple of Tornados was quite fun too.

I hope you don't sell it Ali. Corsairs are my favourite OSF of all. When my boat comes in, I will have me a 302ci powered Automatic one with electric power steering and decent brakes.. You could always build yours like that and then sell it to ME!!!

We won't allow it to be sold! Work shall begin next year haha

Now, I build Superyachts for high net worth individuals (billionaires) and work as Owner's project manager or technical manager. Current project is restoration of a 50m classic motor yacht built in the thirties, previous one was a monster at 131metres and circa 500 million € build cost. You think you know how the other half live? Trust me, you don't .

Then though I was an engineer in the Royal Navy and was on a 7 month deployment call Atlantic Patrol South. We (the RN) maintain a continuous presence with a ship on stand by some where in the South Atlantic to cover any need in the Falkland Islands but also have to cover West Africa as part of the same tasking. It's a big area and successive Strategic Defence Reviews have emasculated the RN in favour of the RAF and Army, especially with 10 + years of conflict in the Middle East that they are more appropriate to deal with. The flight in question was a standard patrol flight that me and a few other matelots were able to cadge a lift on for an over view of the Islands. It was strange flying over places like San Carlos water, Goose Green and Mount Tumbledown. The Second World War is so far in the past it's hard to visualise but I've served with many Falklands war veterans who've personally recounted their experiences in 82, so to see all these locations first hand meant a lot more than grainy WW2 still images in a museum.

Just wondered if you had something to do with the Services. I've spent a bit of time in the Falkland Islands myself.

We are off to Chile first, a place called Punta Arenas to de-mob and crew change , load up with materials then to down South of the Falklands to install a jacket and topsides and lay a 70 km 32 inch pipe line. we are off 160 Nm off the East coast of Argentina heading South as I speak the we will cut through the Magellan straits across to Punta Arenas. it will be quite an interesting project  for us as it will be the southernmost  platform ever installed, what with the high winds and seas and of course cold weather it should be quite challenging.

I work for a Singapore based company and normally we service the oil fields of S/E Asia and some times the Middle East. mmmmm think this will be a different climate though ha ha .

Vista , must have been great getting to look down over the Falklands getting buzzed by the Tornados. great good on ya....

It certainly will (re climate) dependent on the time of year, it's colder than a penguin's testicles!

I'll see if I can find the photos

Pics of the outside I might be able to do as they're in the public domain anyway. But inside? I'd never work in the industry again
