Just in one day I've seen a Toyota yaris visit the rear locker on a brand new caravan, incorrect wiring rear lights, parked on hard shoulder having a cup of tea, middle lane 50mph,overtaking in outside lane motorway,caravan loaded so bad Towbar nearly touching the road,last but not least watched a guy trying to reverse a caravan into a side road. Nearly had to take some indigestion tablets for this one I laughed so hard! Two things to say about caravanners BAN THEM or TRAIN THE DRIVERS make them all have a test about towing things before letting them loose on the road! 2
colr6 Posted July 6, 2015 Author Report Posted July 6, 2015 Forgot to add if anyone is thinking of purchasing a Yaris they do not fit in the rear locker of a caravan so stick with the bicycles but leave them strapped to the boot of the car (another pet hate)

mk1del Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 just got back from Devon Saturday, was silly season on the Monday, only got onto a42 southbound, road closed two lorry crash, detour around Ashby-de-la-Zouch, two hours later back to m42 ,then onto m5 then a car and caravan on hard shoulder, towbar ripped off,a frame bent and debris on road, think that was start and end of his holiday,

Tackleberry Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 Can't see the appeal of dragging a toilet around the country, using more fuel to do so, at a snails pace, when you could book into a comfy B&B, not have to cook, clean or make the bed... Plus, I'd hate having to wear a flat cap whilst driving as caravaners do...each to their own I suppose.
deltamal Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 Living in Plymouth area the usual traffic hold up's are caravans or VW campers, the VW's are usually slower or broken down, mostly due to no maintenance and hopeful owners I guess!

accord83 Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 When the kids were small we had caravans, 17 footers, but I towed with a Granada, then a Senator, usually late at night and the vans were well balanced, had a stabiliser, and high speed tyres. I always made good time as long as the passenger seat tachograph was asleep........... I hate the: let's run during the day at 40mph, what's a caravan service? Tyres? They're 10 years old with plenty of tread, mainly on the sidewalls and, 3 tonne nose weight, is that OK? Ham Shankers 2
colr6 Posted July 8, 2015 Author Report Posted July 8, 2015 The main problem with caravan nerds is they don't do enough towing not had any supervision on how to tow correctly.tow with a vehicle to small to handle the van , inappropriate mirrors so don't have good rearward vision. Think they can indicate (sometimes) and just pull out on the theory I'm bigger than you! To busy listening to the sat nav with not a clue where they are going, what happened to map reading? Drive as though they are just in a car, not increasing space for braking distance and just pull out foot down nothing happens we are now back to inappropriate towing vehicle. Don't get me wrong there are some what you would call professional caravaners who get on, know where they are going and drive accordingly. Saw two last year! I to cannot see the point in vanning prefer the b&b route especially with some of the rates these sites charge! Anyway coming up to hopefully a warm weekend so Black Friday is approaching THE VAN COMMETH so should be able to give you update of the woes of a caravan ner on Monday So put emmer dale and corry on record in anticipation of chapter 2

The Transplanter Posted July 14, 2015 Report Posted July 14, 2015 I used to have a 25ft twin wheel which I pulled behind my ML55 AMG it used to out accelerate most cars with the van on the back Its bad driving thats the problem not caravan owners per se, now all the coffin dodgers have moved to motor homes they seem to be slower than caravans! Even as a ex caravaner, caravans used to get in my way, as well as the "middle laners" who drive on the motorway once a year

As I pulled past and the beemer driver saw I was towing a trailer with a 1/2 tonne of aggregate his face was a pciture. <mutley snigger>
