dalmarshall Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Ok, my mate has a budget of 6k and is looking for a quick hot hatch. He suggested a mk4 Golf R32...I said don't bother! Disappointing performance from a 240bhp V6 high maintenance etc Then it went onto Focus ST, audi s3 My vote is Honda Civic Type R...bulletproof reliability, fast, fun and you can get a half decent.one with 6k What's your views on the above? Any others worth a look ?
Admin Vista Posted October 23, 2015 Admin Report Posted October 23, 2015 Corrado VR6, should appreciate will still having Classic kudos too.
Danish Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Renaultsport Clio 197 ? Quite cheap and mine went like stink.
mk2 mike Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Alfa brera 3.2 v6 all day long. In budget and stunning looks. Failing that mk5 golf gti. Scrap the ST, juicy and uncomfortable on long journeys.
khanlad Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 197 too, not the fastest in a straight line but id have put mine against anything on the twisties and did! All the vw's too heavy and underpowered
Leo Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Honda S2000, it's not a hatch though. Or a 330i beemer, it's a hatch of sorts.
jxke Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Renault 5 Turbo You'll have a few thousand quid to spare and they're starting to really climb in price. Truly great little cars, a proper hot hatch unlike a lot of the new stuff. The Civic Type R is a good suggestion, as long as it's the EP shape.
Snapper Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 Check the weights and bhp to find the BHP per tonne then look at the torque curve A much better way of finding which one has the edge
Leo Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 I and an 02 plate civic type r, never gave me any trouble at all. Cracking car, but finding an unamused one now may be difficult.
mk2 mike Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 Alfa 500 quid to tax That is an issue.
dalmarshall Posted October 24, 2015 Author Report Posted October 24, 2015 Some great stuff coming in..........keep it going!!! Alfa £500 tax!!!!! I didn't think anything was THAT much!
Admin Vista Posted October 24, 2015 Admin Report Posted October 24, 2015 Some great stuff coming in..........keep it going!!! Alfa £500 tax!!!!! I didn't think anything was THAT much! I wouldn't dismiss it completely though. The diesel version is far more affordable tax wise and still has 210bhp
dalmarshall Posted October 24, 2015 Author Report Posted October 24, 2015 Focus ST225, I know they're juicy (23mpg according to the computer on the computer on my old one) but the power delivery is great, the sound is nice aswell, but I'm sure I read somewhere that there is a potential fault in the block and a lot were cracking. Anyone else confirm this?

dalmarshall Posted October 24, 2015 Author Report Posted October 24, 2015 Yeh, the only reason I sold mine was because of the low MPG. ....no good as a daily! I got 30-32 MPG out of my e60 530d m sport that followed the ST, and I'm expecting over 40 from my new 330d. Not particularly economical by today's standards but 23 is ridiculous!

You'll get 40 out of it as well, they're a cracking motor. 0 to 60 under 6 seconds as wel.
dalmarshall Posted October 24, 2015 Author Report Posted October 24, 2015 Yes, the power is effortless, loving it so far although the missus drives it 90% of the time while I get the transit van!!
Leo Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 Same here, except I've got a crappy hiace.
PeteRS8084 Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 A white transit van...............The true fast ford! Well they always are round my way!
colr6 Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 Transit vans? I'm still using a carrier bike! North South divide again lol
Leo Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 Transit vans? I'm still using a carrier bike! North South divide again lol Is it like the one out of open all hours?
colr6 Posted October 24, 2015 Report Posted October 24, 2015 Sure is, notax no mot no ins no emmissions healthy life style. If you want to combine work and sort of sport hatch try the m sport trannie, could be a good investment from Malcolm Wilson with only limited numbers
dalmarshall Posted October 24, 2015 Author Report Posted October 24, 2015 I'm also thinking the 330ci could be a good un. Scoobies and evos are all going to ragged to death for 6k
