When you get it stolen or involved in an accident and it's got no chassis number or been stamped with spurious letter stamps, police get hold of it....has it been wringed? Investigators get interested then tally Ho you didn't tell us that sorry your ins is void!

Trust me, in an accident it wouldn't really get checked. Plus how many original shells have had repair sections on the strut tops and not had the number re stamped?

If these things are not checked on suspect cars I'm off to order a shitload of strut tops,go out knicking mk2 escorts weld strut top on and sell them if I'm not going to get caught!

there's a guy on eBay that stamps them up to look like factory, can also buy the proper size stamps off eBay, like you say been happening for years,

Personally I think one should be built and checked over for quality and fit ,then if all ok be allowed to re shell one like the heritage mg shells, as long as it was   declared,

I've used this guy and he's really sound.  Lives about 5 mile away from myself.

I took a set of MK1 strut tops to him, along with my log book for him to stamp.  He has the stamps that are the same size and font to what Ford originally used.

i think they are good for rally/racing. no reg. numbers, otherwise the seller would put it in the discription would'nt he.

I could not see no further informaion on it. I would have a look at those shells first.

The chassis and wheel tubs look a bit naff

http://bbs.rsownersclub.co.uk/showthread.php?232168-Escort-rally-prep-From-turkey

I don't think I would go near one myself have an odd panel made yes but not a whole car

If you're gonna dis something at least get the facts right! Your link is to a Turkish Rally Prep company that HAND MAKE EVERYTHING - they hand form / beat / roll every part to replicate the individual panels as opposed to the complete shells from China via Ireland! I'm sure your metal working skills are stunning to pass such criticism on

Think you missed the point, be it Turkey China, Russia or anywhere it's a FAKE, someone will try to pass it off as the real deal, and someone could end up being killed, it may look like an Escort but it's still a copy. I think we have all heard the horror stories about fakes from China.

Yes it could be a better option than a bad restoration job.  What safety tests and crash test have these chassis been put though?

It's good that panels and doors are now available.             I wish this was the case for the Cortina, these panels are getting so hard to find now.

Plus don't slag off my metal work or fabrication skills without knowing me, If it's not right it goes in the bin.

Hats off to them I wouldn't even try to do what they are doing but you have to admit some of it did looked a bit rough in the photos.

Who's to say that the quality is any worse than some can't be arsed bloke in Halewood on a Friday afternoon would produce? How many times have you read about someone buying what they thought was a solid decent car only to poke around a bit and find it stuck together with bubble gum and sticky tape? I don't think anyone would buy one with the intention of creating a concourse mk2 escort, I imagine a lot will be competition cars?

Posted

Exactly, no crumple zones, impact bars, all this modern stuff, I imagine like I say most will be track, stage whatever where all the strengthening will be done afterwards anyway? The works cars were standard shells prepared by whoever! No one would bat an eyelid if you replaced every panel on a car with non genuine ones?

Until someone's actually used one or seen one in the flesh, with the relevant expertise. We're in the dark. And if the qualities ok, there's no reason why people shouldn't re shell there rotters. It's been happening with mg,s and minis for ever.

this is happening in the states with 60's classic like early mustang fast back and 1 generation Camaros, companies are basically selling a new shell in primer. I think from what I've read is that in the states they are doing all of the fab work and replace all of the rotton panels with new sheet metal. thing is in the states they are car mad and there are countless companies that sell literally everything re rebuild a car, not just n.o.s, parts but reproduction stuff that is as good or better than original. over here its only really ford stuff that's catered for, and that's mainly escorts

if I get chance tomorrow i'll ring dvla to enquire about these shells re q plate or how things stand re identity

to put one on the road legally it will need to pass iva or biva which is a £500 test if they had been built by ford or approved by ford they should be ok to use as a replacement otherwise its iva
