bomber1 Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 think that was in classic ford a while back. big mods with a dremmel to let the crank turn
Mr Sam Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 i remember seing the one in classic ford
Admin Vista Posted February 23, 2007 Admin Report Posted February 23, 2007 Coltec Racing supply 2.4 pintos and to build one from scratch (to their spec) will cost significantly more than the price of that one on eBay. For such a high start price though, he could do with posting more info on the eBay one. http://www.coltecracing.com/index.html
Morley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Search for Pinto tuning on American websites... You can buy and tune one of their 2.3 Pintos - getting more power for less money... Wonder why no one over here has tried it!?
Admin Vista Posted February 23, 2007 Admin Report Posted February 23, 2007 Search for Pinto tuning on American websites... You can buy and tune one of their 2.3 Pintos - getting more power for less money... Wonder why no one over here has tried it!? Aren't they significantly different to our Pintos though? I've heard that few parts (if any) are interchangeable, that the engines themselves are taller and that none of the mounting points etc correspond Anyone else know anymore?
Morley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Yeah they are... But you can buy a crate engine, built, ready to bolt in... Hold up, i'll do some research...............
Morley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 I cant copy the picture over... But the engine on the home page is very similar to our Pinto.... /www.esslingeracing.com/
Morley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Thats the kiddo... The Mustang came with a Turbo version....
105Nick Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 That looks really tall to me to fit a Brit Ford, though it'd squeeze into a MK3 capper, though it might need a Camaro Z28 bonnet scoop to give it some clearance which would suit the MK3 quite well I suppose.
Morley Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 I reakon that it's probably not that much different... I cant find the damn website that i was looking at last year...
Dom Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 I'm pretty sure that my brothers 2.4 pinto has got a 2.3 head and I don't think he had to modify the block for the crank either. I'll find out later though.
cortinaman Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 The Yank 2.3 Pinto is physically bigger than the 2.0. When a mate of mine was looking to put a pinto in a mk2 Cortina, he needed a front bowl sump, which rumour had it comes from the yank pinto. But it turned out the 2.3 one wouldn't fit, it had to be a 2.0 which are super-rare in the states.
stickerboy Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 Isn't the Merkur XR4Ti (American Sierra) a 2.3 pinto with a turbo on it??? This site is well into them www.merkursport.com
J_mk1 Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 corr! has anyone seen how much that website morley mentioned is doing a set of steel rods and forged pistons for??? $499 dollars! thats only about £300 pounds isnt it?
bortaf Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 The US pinto (Lima) is a fair old engine but nothing is interchangable between it and the Euro pinto longer, taller, wider ect There was a mag back in the late 80's/early 90's that put one in a Mk1 escort, may have been fast ford
Jimsiss Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 just dry sump it and mount it lower using a custom fabricated crossmember
