2 dr anything is better than 4 door...

...For looks, maybe not for shopping. 2dr's for the win.

I dont think you have used the best illustration, even the 4 door Mk1 Escort I posted a photo of is better looking than alot of yank inspired 2 door monstrosities. Some so long they should have 6 doors rather than 2. Unless you didnt quite mean anything 2 door compared to any 4 door?

Woops, I take it back then its gorgeous. Actually Im not even sure what it is, can you enlighten GJUK? It is certainly more compact and appealing than alot of the big metal they have there.

It is okay :P

Most 2 doors looks nicer than 4 doors in my opinion, each to their own though as you have just shown :D

It is a Dodge Dart, 1968 with a 400 big block V8. It is the width of a mondeo but 5 meters long :-/

One more for you

Well I cant argue too much with your argument because I too think most 2 doors look better than their 4 door counterparts but question the value differences as a result. Yes I may like the look of 2 door Mk2 Escort over a 4 door but I would buy a 4 door every time because I wont pay double or even triple the difference that 2 less doors sometimes gets priced at.

Your car has a Ford Fairlane look to it from the rear. How did a American muscle car like that end up in the UK? How did you aquire it? I looked at 4 door Darts online for comparison and it doesnt help with the 4 door cause at all LOL.

Mine you see in the pic is a four door i was in the market for a mk1 escort in 2012 but wanted any just to get one so prefered one that was cheaper needing work that i could do my self, i wouldnt be able to warrant getting a 2 door one on my budget but this one came on ebay and about 3 minutes after it came on i had bought it for £2300 needing a repaint, but it had all the extras i could ask for, 2.0 pinto, 5 speed box kenlow fan luminition ignition rs2000 bellhousing and sump, quickshift gearstick, janspeed exhaust, 6 dial dash, capri 2.8 legs and the list goes one all for £2300 ! so below there is a picture of it when i got it and when i painted it and did all the little mods to it like quarter bumpers colour change spots chrome turned satin black but yes i would prefer a 2 door if funds allowed me but i am very happy with this and it gets more looks than the Audi R8 following me the other other day !

My opinion is just to own a mk1 is a pleasure and i feel honored 4 door or 2 door or even van camper or estate for that matter they are beautifull cars in standard form or modified, soon people will be thinking the same and getting priced out of two door ones resulting in going for a 4 door one and will eventually push prices up of the four door ones closer to the two door ones but obviously not as much, i love my car because i have created it, its fun i love driving it and so does everyone else.

Secondly i dont want it ever to be so nice clean and shiny that i cant use it daily, i use my car when i want to, i park it on my drive ( i have just had a cat 1 £400 alarm and immobiliser system fitted to it so if anyone even farts near it it will wake the whole neighbour hood up, it is less desirable i know but also less desirable to steal, i dont have mexico wings i dont have two doors all the bits that are worth silly money, im not worried about leaving it in tesco, most of the time it is garaged of course in various locations but i am happy to park it anywhere as its not mint and i enjoy it. My kids and wife enjoy going out in it and enjoy the attention it causes when i drive it around. Question is someone who has bought a mint 2 door worth £15,000 or £20,000 can you say they have the same fun out of their car that i do ? probably not i dont know. Lifes for living, cars are for driving for me its not an investment its a toy !

Thats alot of car for the money and affirms my question why 2 door cars are valued so much more when you can get all that for 2300 quid?

Amazing transformation the colour really suits it. I would probably go with chrome bumpers though as it would really go with the green and the polished part of the wheels but thats just me. :-D

It was motd and on the road when i first got it !

Well theres a bit more to it than that ..... i sold it back in 2012 and tracked it down to the owner in scotland and made him an offer to get it back and he accepted so i have only had it back two weeks now and its not going anywhere now !

I sold it to him after i did all the work for £4000 nearly and now four years on had to pay £6000 to get it back with delivery cat 1 alarm and immobiliser and new bits i have added it now owes me over £7000 but another car wouldnt be the same to me i wanted this one back whatever ! i did it myself and talking about the colour at the time i did it i saw a green one with satin black bits on the front cover of classic ford mag and i saw it and said to myself i want a car that looks like that so the car below which i am sure many of you will know is what i based mine around hence the green and the satin black i really liked it .....

There is nothing wrong with 4 doors...

Thats quite interesting and have always wondered if there was a notable difference in handling between 2 and 4 door Mk1s. I may get flamed for this but in the case of Mk2s there is a difference. I had refrained mentioning this when I started the thread with intent to throw it it an some point lol. 4 door Mk2s do handle better from having more rigid shells, this difference becomes even more apparent with time if left unmodified. To most in the UK this difference maybe isnt so apparent as their sports models which were only 2 doors were given strengthening that none of their 4 doors were. As such their torsional rigidity may have been closer. Here in Australia where all shells were strengthened regardless of the amount of doors its easier to feel the differences. As a group in my younger days we owned dozens of Mk2s and sampled many others when shopping around and the club that we founded. The 2 door shell flexes a noticeable amount more than the 4 door shell that it does impact on their handling. Original German Factory figures point out that 4 door Mk2s have a greater torsional rigidity than their 2 door counter parts. The Mk2 was designed as a 4 door for this reason and modified into a 2 door for the range. I have seen this disputed here with hilarious comparisons to a shoebox but all my experiences point to this being the case. My best friend used it as subject of an assignment for an Engineering study at University. (Laser measurement tools had just been introduced and he really just wanted an excuse to play with them). He did however identify where the weaknesses of the 2 door shell lay compared to their 4 door counterparts. This of course being for totally factory unmodified shells way back when and probably has little relevance to most cars having been re-welded many times over since. So they may not look better but handling wise they are, (or should I saw were when they were standard)

I comprehensively fubarred a Mk2 1100 2Dr. Panda car driving it down a flight of steps, I blame a weaker shell to this day.  Ifirc didn't Ford have to add extra points to the roll cage and strengthening to stop the Mk2's bending at the base of the screen pillars on their rally cars?

At the end of the day its what you can afford, when i bought my 4dr i couldnt afford a 2 door, i could afford a 2 door now if i sold my other cars projects and trailers etc but i dont want to, the fun i get out of my four door that i created  is brilliant, sometimes i use it daily it gets wet and muddy but its not mint and i dont want a mint one that i'm scared to do anything with, dont get me wrong a mint 2 door in my garage would be awesome but i think i would enjoy mine more and different cars mean different things to different peope and there will be people who say the opposite so i understand both sides,

Getting any mk1 escort now is hard, there's either rot boxes or concours and anything in the middle seems to be hard to find, i'm glad i have managed to get mine back after 4 years  and this time its not going anywhere and i feel lucky to have any mk1 escort and i have worked hard for it, the price of any mk1 escort is high and i am sure in years to come the four door ones will become higher and i am sure they will only go in one direction but for me the fun i have with it 3 or 4 times a week is worth more than what its going to be worth in the future.
