Finally got the car taxed and took it for a drive. Steering is violently shaking at about 20mph. Sterling wheel moving side to side about 3 inches on its own. Not under braking. Have checked front legs for play, anti roll bar and bushes, lower arms and bushes. All are good. Had new calipers and pads fitted. All wheels running free when brake released so not binding. Any ideas as I've ran out!! Cheers.

No I went for the more expensive square tyres.lol. I haven't checked the wheels. I have a spare set of wheels so will give that a try. Hope it's something that simple as been on it all day. Thanks for the reply.

some tyres suffer from hot flat spotting, its more common in light aircraft than cars tho, if this happens, the tyre can usually be salvaged by getting it warm again while rolling with the weight on it, or deflating and leaving flat for a period before re inflating (no weight on it)

it occurs when the tyre was sat there warm with weight on then allowed to cool, once cool it sets with a small flat spot where it was sat on the tarmac

however, if it dosnt cure it, certainly on an aircraft, the tyre is scrap, aircraft line engineers often refer to it as an oval tyre

My guess would be a flat spotted tyre from sitting too long. Thats the reason for my latest tyre purchase. It stated at about 40kph. When I swapped the tyres around front to rear it didnt start until 60kph but was still there. You guys probably have alot more local tyre manufactures than us but our industry collapsed and now 80% of tyres are Chinese made (even the Pirelli I bought as a spare) and put simply the Chinese cant made anything decent thats rubber not even elastic for your underwear. Now tyres brands that use to be long lasting that are now Chinese made are perishing really quickly. Spend a bit more and get something European or Japanese made.
