We know that earlier this year there was an all Ford Cortina banger meeting. In the lead up to that meeting, a rise in thefts of Cortina's was noticed. Many conversations and thoughts were had regarding the matter...

 

Now, to give you a heads up, Spedeworth are planning an all Ford Fiesta banger meet in 2017 then an all Ford Escort banger meet in 2018.

 

In all walks of life there's bad apples...I race and know many banger drivers. We've been tarred with many brushes....but, won't harm to be a little extra vigilant over your pride and joy.

The ‘FORD FIESTA FUN DAY’, will be run in 2017 in a Ford Fiesta only National Banger meeting which will be run to Back to Basics rules with a maximum of 1400cc engines and in 2018 we will be running a FORD ESCORT ONLY meeting (engine size to be agreed nearer the date). The venue will be Hednesford Hills Raceway and the emphasis of the day will be on entertainment rather than just winning – we want everyone to enjoy their day

Some have already mentioned mk 1's and 2's that will be raced, some requiring various parts like doors and bonnets...

Wouldn't it be sensible for the 'club' to at least register a complaint pointing out the potential risk to classic cars and the folly in providing such 'entertainment' ? Speedworth must surely know that scrap Cortina's, Escort's, Capri's etc. aren't exactly common in scrapyards anymore, moreover the scrappers know the value of them ! ! ! Even finding MK3 escorts is a tricky task. Got to be worth a shot?

As said, Deane Wood who owns Spedeworth, is only interested in the ££££. He's proved that numerous times before.... If it draws a big crowd, he'll do it....so just make sure you take all the precautions with your pride and joy.

Always had a soft spot for a 105e ,infact my first ever car 1200 super white with red roof and stripe

I just read up on this guy he is notorious. He claims he is doing the classic car world a favour making heaps of old parts available to classic car owners? How does this happen, almost everything is totally ruined by the end of any event? He claims to have cleaned up the sport where it once had a bad reputation yet police will have to attend events now to check cars as the theft increases that accompany one of his money making schemes. His claims that the cars are beyond salvage is nonsense in that as the cars become more valuable even the crappiest of cars become viable for restoration. I have seen cars restored from a pair of chassis rails as it was the last one. This guy is a clown. There are so many more later common models that could be used for the sport.

Like I've said, I race bangers and have raced every model of Ford made in my early days..but now I stick to Volvo 240/740, Mondeo's and believe it or not, Micra's... Most of the banger boys are a good bunch, but in any walk of life you get the bad apples...

 

I know some of the lads have given away parts for classic cars like Jags, Mk1 and 2 Granada's for free...

 

There's still a few Mk 1, 2 and 3 Escorts buried in some yards that will get pulled out for this...but I also fear, as it did for the Cortina meeting at Arena Essex last year, an increase in thefts of Escorts and Fiesta's as the meeting nears. Hopefully I'll be wrong.

I once had a bloke come for a Capri axle I was selling who was into bangers,he thought he was being smug telling me he just bought a 2 door yes 2 Granada off a old women even showed me pics and admitted it was in really good nick but didn't care he was going to use it in a banger event anyway,well he was acting smug untill I told him In no uncertain terms to push off without the axle.....while ever banger racing is going classic cars will always be in danger once the really really scrap cars are gone what then?? Wouldn't have thought ud get much banging out of a plastic modern car and cant see banger "boys" paying......
