Admin Vista Posted January 15, 2017 Admin Report Posted January 15, 2017 May i ask where you bought it from? I have a mk1 rs2000 and missing this part. /David Mk1 RS2000's were never fitted with them from the factory.
Gyver Posted January 15, 2017 Report Posted January 15, 2017 Mk1 RS2000's were never fitted with them from the factory.I remember reading about this many years ago, but i am not looking for 100% period correct. It is a old rallycar thats getting back into shape after not being used for over 35 years. /David
Admin Vista Posted January 15, 2017 Admin Report Posted January 15, 2017 Fair enough just didn't want you wasting money in the search for period authenticity
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted January 15, 2017 Moderator Report Posted January 15, 2017 There were actually two sizes of these. The one the came on my Twincam and a wider one that Ford sold as an accessory. I had both at one point and took some comparison shots that I will have to dig up. Since I had the correct one for my Twincam I stupidly gave the wider one away thinking these things wouldnt be worth anything.

Would gladly see some photos if you have the time to dig them up!

Would gladly see some photos if you have the time to dig them up! It was on film so you will have to bare with me a but to find them. I can say that the one pictured above is the same as my Twincam one and the other is wider with 4 pressed ridges instead of 3.
Jerrytom161 Posted January 15, 2017 Author Report Posted January 15, 2017 The one i fitted to my mexico was the shorter version , this is suppose to be the correct version so it clears the larger back box on a mexico exhaust so I was told .
chrisis Posted January 16, 2017 Report Posted January 16, 2017 Maybe is not the right place to post my question, but how in both twincams and mexicos secure this stone guard? Does the bolts goes thought the bonnet or they are welded?

This is a key point. If you want to use a rear silencer then you have to fit the shorter one. Only if you use a straight pipe on its own after the axle can you use the larger one. Given the limited knowledge about these things (few even know a larger one even exists) and based on the models that were given rear silencers and which werent It always seemed that the general rule was that the larger engined sporty Mk1s would need to use the smaller and lesser powered ones that didnt require an extra silencer would use the larger one. Maybe is not the right place to post my question, but how in both twincams and mexicos secure this stone guard? Does the bolts goes thought the bonnet or they are welded? But being an Australian one and never seen two cars the same and some not even getting the deflector at all, it couldnt be applied as "proper fitting" to any UK cars.

But being an Australian one and never seen two cars the same and some not even getting the deflector at all, it couldnt be applied as "proper fitting" to any UK cars. All AVO factory produced mk1 Escorts had the holes for them through the boot floor but they stopped fitting the deflector as standard midway through production of the Mexico. As far as I know all RS1600's had them as standard and the mk1 RS2000 was never fitted with it as standard.

As far as I know all RS1600's had them as standard and the mk1 RS2000 was never fitted with it as standard. So did they just leave the holes there open? On the Twincams here that didnt have deflectors on them there was no sign there was ever meant to be one. It was like if they had some deflectors on the shelf they fitted them but if there were no shipments from the UK that week they didnt bother. The larger deflectors were available as an option but no one knew they even existed so in turn no one bought them as an accessory. They could still be bought new at Ford in the early 90s. Thats how I found out about them as I went looking for a replacement one for the Twincam and they told me no but the optional wider one was still available so I bought one in case I couldnt get a Twincam one. You could also get new boot lids and Twincam guards then too which I have in the shed in their boxes.
Admin Vista Posted January 16, 2017 Admin Report Posted January 16, 2017 No they didn't leave them open, just put bolts through them.

Don't you go damaging the seats putting all these spares in before you ship it over to me ?....LOL
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted January 16, 2017 Moderator Report Posted January 16, 2017 Don't you go damaging the seats putting all these spares in before you ship it over to me ?....LOL All the new Twincam panels and MK2 panels are all tucked away in the shed so they wont do any damage. The Twincam is full of Mk2 interior bits. Rear seat and trims etc and a pair of Bilstein Capri struts with springs on the floor. In the boot is a couple of pairs of Mk2 struts and a radiator. Thats where I used to keep a set of wheels but I put them on the Mk2. Plenty of more room though if im prepared to jam stuff in. 1
