chinkamon Posted April 15, 2017 Author Report Posted April 15, 2017 well new leads from Burton arrived very good quality ( look and feel at least!) feels superior to accuspark ones which I liked originally so as soon as I can off load the kids I'm off out for a blast to see what happens!!
puddy Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Got the complete Accuspark set up on my mk1 tina x flow , been on there for the last 4 years and don't miss a beat . Good luck , puddy
SmokeEm Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 Got the complete Accuspark set up on my mk1 tina x flow , been on there for the last 4 years and don't miss a beat . Good luck , puddy I know of at least 3 guys that fitted accuspark systems that all failed within months, one never even worked from the start. You've been fortunate. Horses for courses
chinkamon Posted April 17, 2017 Author Report Posted April 17, 2017 well went for a blast, an driving like driving miss daisy all is fine- flat out there's a slight jutter randomly but not a lot- cruise along then plant your foot down as if over taking then there's big hesitations jutters an a few boings like Skippy again then all clear until u do it again so points and old coil are going back on as I already have them in the boot in case of any emergency bit as the rains come back an it's welly weather i prob wont be testing her today grrr so frustrating
chinkamon Posted April 17, 2017 Author Report Posted April 17, 2017 should add the carbs been stripped and cleaned and I'm currently rebuilding a second hand 1500 carb so if no change after points an plugs I'll swop the carbs altho the current one is clean as a whistle 1
Slammed Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 i had something similair on my old mk1 1500 a year back, was juddering on full throttle or whenever we put the throttle down, turned out to be in the 1500 single pot carb (should be the zentih VN2 you have i assume?) the gasket that seats between the removable fuel bowl and carb body had got really thing and was not doing its thing! made a new one out of gasket paper and was fine as roses ever since and still is as far as i know! if it helps I have a proven good zenith vn2 carb if you need one working ?
chinkamon Posted April 17, 2017 Author Report Posted April 17, 2017 if it helps I have a proven good zenith vn2 carb if you need one working ? oooo do you! how much we talking?!
puddy Posted April 17, 2017 Report Posted April 17, 2017 I know of at least 3 guys that fitted accuspark systems that all failed within months, one never even worked from the start. You've been fortunate. Horses for courses I can only talk from personal experience . puddy
SmokeEm Posted April 18, 2017 Report Posted April 18, 2017 I can only talk from personal experience . puddy Agreed Mark, as can I 1
chinkamon Posted April 21, 2017 Author Report Posted April 21, 2017 well went out a few times today idle was really low first off so every time I went to drive off it wanted to stall, then when was going it was judder a bit randomly again so altered idle and volume control screw went out again an it was better bit still randomly jolts so thinking it's fuel issue again as electronics are all changed maybe some shit stuck in the top of the carb that I can't clean out???
chinkamon Posted April 22, 2017 Author Report Posted April 22, 2017 I have another carb ariving soon plus the one I'm trying to rebuild but the loss of a compressor and air line means it's hard to blow anything out now
Veemax Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 ummmmmmmmmmmm ummmmmmmmm I bought electronic ignition an swopped the bits over an other than that she's stock... without getting a torch moving the car out the way of the garage opening the garage door opening the bonnet and having a look I'll guess til tomorrow evening an say yes still has the ballast wire lol cant say i ever seen a Mk1 with a ballast set up
chinkamon Posted April 24, 2017 Author Report Posted April 24, 2017 Yea i wasmt sure without looking but there's no ballast unless it's hidden away
chinkamon Posted May 11, 2017 Author Report Posted May 11, 2017 so got a new ( second hand) carb on yesterday drove like sh*t put the timing light on and it was so retarded it might as well of been going backwards! sorted that, went for a spin and hoo ray!! for the first time since owning the car it's actually running spot on!! smooth acceleration no blips pops or stutters and all good!! so off for a mot as that run out today and passed no advisories! question is now.... do I leave the points an condenser on or put the elec ignition back on?! 1
chinkamon Posted May 11, 2017 Author Report Posted May 11, 2017 but the cars running perfectly!! do I risk it?!
