katana Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Doesnt the alt run the wrong way? Do you use original flywheel? If you are referring to a Zetec / ST170 then no the alternator will always spin the right way unless it's facing backwards! You can use a std fly providing its off a 1.8 as these are the lightest of the stock wheels certainly the one I got seemed about 4kg lighter than the 2.0 Mondeo one that went in the scrap bin. Re-drilled for Pinto Clutch - job's a goodun!
colr6 Posted July 5, 2017 Author Report Posted July 5, 2017 Think what Khanlad is referring to is the water pump turning the wrong way for what ever reason you have to alter the belt run ?
khanlad Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Exactly, i knew i read somewhere about it? My point, once youve done it yeah you can pick them up cheap as chips, but the intial out lay is not, as for tbe 150 quid for sump and water rail? Maybe if you cut and weld stuff yourself but not to buy, for argument sake retro ford stuff which most people tend to do.

May have to get a scrapper and have a go to see what you really need to purchase and what you can make. Always good to broaden ones horizons.Might have an old grasscutter kicking about that could use a bit more poke, well there only normally 12hp so should stand a good chance of improving on the that !!....LOL

eeb43 Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 i made my own alternator bracket and adjuster and my own engine mounts
guido Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Right so we have the debate of Zetec or Red top. A little puzzle for all you Zetec spivs and lovers. Is it possible to build a zetec to produce 230/40 bhp stay in one piece and to last more than one season built by an average builder and not have to sell a kidney to achieve those results. Would love to hear your views and it must be n/a and not turboed. Give it your best shot then boys Oh yes and must have all the bits on to install in RWD version. No, you should know better Col and depends of what your kidney's value is LoL

eeb43 Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 rather have the grass cutter engine than a zetec, although the flathead v8 would be nice! flathead would be about the same weight and power as a good pinto!
RWL81P Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 flathead would be about the same weight and power as a good pinto! yes but sound fantastic! and as im into rock n roll and hotrods then it would make a nice coffee table.
colr6 Posted July 5, 2017 Author Report Posted July 5, 2017 Just think of the street cred of owning a grasscutter with a v8 in though !
RWL81P Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 i had my t140 sat in the kitchen till the bike was ready for it, was gone put it in the mower but didnt want oil alover the grass.
