Hi sounds a little geeky but I was wondering if anyone knows of mk1 and mk2 escort production modifications, for example

Jan '70 moved bonnet catch from outside grill to under bonnet.

Now I sound really geeky!

I'm wondering as its really useful to date shells as so many have been messed about with.

Nothing geeky about this at all it's all part of owning a classic car.  The amount of production changes that occurred with the MKII Escort between 1975 and 1980 is massive.   That's one thing I love about the MKII's with all the production changes made, options offered and the wide range of paint and trim colours available it's actually hard to find two that are the same.

Would you share or is this something you have been working hard on?

It's something I have some details about in a document from a club I used to belong to......sharing it makes things easier for fakers though. :?

Agreed Its not the high value mexico's or twin cams im interested in. I'm looking for a very early car, so many are messed about with. If you change your mind, I promise not to share and I'm just looking in Portugal.

now theres a new conumdrum for you, as uk model specs an modifications can often be quite different on oversea market models

ie; mk1 gt cortina did not have shiny body mouldings side / trims that the Super model had, but in europe the gt had the body mouldings / side trims, plus once svo came about people could order all kinds of unusual spec, so it could still be difficult to spot a Wrongun?

Unlike many UK Ford groups that are online this one has a comprehensive international membership and knowledge base. The events the Dutch crew run is as good as those held in the UK in representing the site at European events. Vista taps in to a world wide knowledge base of members when he does his evaluations and any forum question on a international model is answered as readily as the UK ones. There was just a thread recently from a new member curious at what appeared to be RS parts on his Mk1 one which turned out to be international standards. Rarity claims about some obscure foreign models on Ebay are often quickly debunked here. You wont find a more knowledgeable and kinder group of folk more readily willing to answer and solve just about anything. A member here last year from the Netherlands sent me a pair of Mk2 C Pillars that he cut out special just for the costs of the postage round the other side of the world just to get me out of trouble. You wont find that level of kindness and dedication anywhere else.
