eastoe73 Posted April 16, 2019 Report Posted April 16, 2019 Hi all, I am building my Mk1 Escort and was wandering if I can do some CHEAP upgrades to the original English axle, its an 1100 just thought cheaper to do a few upgrades than buy a new one. Will be running a pinto with around 160 bhp. Any thoughts?
Rich T Posted April 16, 2019 Report Posted April 16, 2019 Panhard rod. New bushes. Tramp bars And new shox. You running 160hp through an 1100 diff?
colr6 Posted April 16, 2019 Report Posted April 16, 2019 You can do a few mods, anti tramp bars/ panhard rod/ spring bushes ( poly ) and the expensive bit a limited. If you go for a limited would suggest an ATB for road, fit and forget.
eastoe73 Posted April 17, 2019 Author Report Posted April 17, 2019 Thanks guys, what the half shafts and the prop shaft flange are they a week point?

DT36 Posted April 17, 2019 Report Posted April 17, 2019 With an ATB diff, you won't be over stressing your half shafts with a mild engine.
colr6 Posted April 17, 2019 Report Posted April 17, 2019 If you go dumping the clutch at every set of lights, you will have problems. Apart from that all should be ok

Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted April 19, 2019 Moderator Report Posted April 19, 2019 No one seems to have mentioned that the ratio of an 1100 diff probably wont be suitable for a lively 160bhp engine. Its probably something like a 4.1. If you going to all the trouble to put a LSD or ATB in it then you may wish to consider changing the ratio at the same time.
X flow Eddie Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 As per the escort rally prep book my english has a piece of 3/4in cds tube welded from the spring hanger under the diff bowl to the outher side spring hanger. Carnt hurt it !!!

X flow Eddie Posted April 23, 2019 Report Posted April 23, 2019 Depends what you want to do with your escort !!!! In my eyes it carnt hurt it by fitting it and being on the safe side. I only did that mod to mine as i had the axle off at the time on the bench at work and thought why not.
notenoughtime Posted April 23, 2019 Report Posted April 23, 2019 Absolutely no point strengthening the axle with 160bhp unless you will doing some of this lol we had a 90 right as we landed 2
