Hol Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 Hello, I have just bought (14 days ago) a barn find Mk1 (1300) that I aim to restore with bubble arches and a Pinto. I don't hang about and thus far, I also have a running RS2000 Mk1 engine, an Unleaded Burton head, a Pinto exhaust, RS2000 dash and a few other bits and pieces. Its not my first Escort ownership having owned a highly modded MK2 in the 80/90's, an RAC logbooked Mk2, and a Mexico Mk1 that I had to sell mid 90's to fund a house. Everyone I knew was driving Mk2's when I was younger, so adjusting looms and moving mounts to fit Pintos was a monthly task. I know that things have moved on and parts that I had previously given away as worthless clutter are now hard to find, but I am hoping this group will help fill in any gaps and tell me straight when I am either talking bobbins, or just plain doing it wrong on the Mk1. I also have an understanding wife, who says I can do what I like this time around, as long I don't ask her to rub down the paint on a set of Laser alloys, so I can polish them. (She did actually do that!) 1
Admin Vista Posted March 19, 2020 Admin Report Posted March 19, 2020 You'll be surprised, things have moved on as there actually isn't that much that's too hard to find now. Don't fit laser alloys Welcome to the forum, post up some pics

Hol Posted March 19, 2020 Author Report Posted March 19, 2020 In my own defence, it was 1991 when it happened. Many genuine RS2000 alloys were For sale in the ..... Feeads.
notenoughtime Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 Welcome look forward to seeing a build thread 👍

There just isnt much in 13s available here, ugly or otherwise. Im so over minilights and that then only leaves the originals or my lasers? 1
Admin Vista Posted March 21, 2020 Admin Report Posted March 21, 2020 I think I said at the time that I quite liked this spoked originals? 1
notenoughtime Posted March 21, 2020 Report Posted March 21, 2020 RP I’m sure I have a set of 4 spokes you can have, would need refurb and you need to pay postage but otherwise there yours 1

Oh I didnt know that. Interesting! They are only 5.5in wide so that may be something. The set that came on the car originally dont look anything as well finished as that pictured above. They go quite grey and dull and the brake dust never seems to ever leave the surface. *Add - I remember now you did say that! It was because they have a Montreal look about them isnt it? 1 hour ago, notenoughtime said: RP I’m sure I have a set of 4 spokes you can have, would need refurb and you need to pay postage but otherwise there yours Wow really? That would be fabulous. I would definitely be in that. I have never actually seen Mk2 RS alloys in real life. Only the lasers ever seem to find their way to our shores. Even my friend with the purple Twincam used them on his car. Thats how I met him, he followed me home wanting to buy my lasers. Nice wheels are as scarce as loo paper here. My apologies to Hol for Hijacking his intro thread.
katana Posted March 21, 2020 Report Posted March 21, 2020 Eh? From 10 feet away, most people, even the purists, would be hard pressed to spot the differences - Lazers having slightly thicker 'spokes' and of course the taper washer seats. Wasn't aware of 5.5" Lazers - thought they were all 6" - 5.5" RS wheels are rare as you already found out and again its hard to spot difference between the two sizes.

I suggested the same on here once (especially in Australia) that it would be hard to notice at a quick glance but had my head bitten off LOL The Laser spokes seem to angle back slightly that gives the impression of a lesser dish so will concede RS ones do look better close up. The 5.5in wheels that are referenced are the Australian factory RS/Rally Pack wheels that is pictured in on the orange car above.

That's interesting as I think the difference is really obvious. Spotting the difference between the 5.5J mk1 RS alloy and the 5.5J Mk2 Capri JPS alloy? That's an easier one to miss
