Finally, after many years of wanting, my own modified 105e

Hi all, quick introduction. Recently bought myself a 1.8 (silver top) Zetecced 105E. It's MOT'ed and runs well, but I've already started making a list of wants so I'm sure I'll be back here looking for some advice soon.

First on the list is seatbelts. It's a 1960 so never had any fitted to my knowledge (I will have a better look under the carpet soon). I'm undecided between 3 points or harnesses and may even get both sets of mounting points done to give the option in the future. Any tips or comments? I'm not really in a position to do it myself yet so does anyone have any recommendations in the Bristol / Bath area?

Welcome to OSF, that should go well with the silver top in it 

harnesses can be restrictive, but you may struggle to fit 3 point, there use to be a company that sold 3 point harness that had a retractable rear part

Nice car. Fixed harnesses suck but you can get inertia reel 3 point harnesses which make life a bit easier I fitted some in my Escort.

 

Look on eBay for Securon harness retractable.

i once fitted a red set of inertia seatbelts out of a mg metro to my mates mk2 escort ,many moons ago, so anything is poss.

My old man had some standard belts fitted to his Anglia. The tunnel mount and side floor mount wasn't too bad to do-but had to have a captive nut welded into the B pillar at the top which was a bit trickier. Also if you fit harnesses you may have to lose the rear seat or position the rear fixing inbetween the upper and lower parts of seat. Again Securon do different colours of seatbelt and different lengths of receivers that fit onto tunnel.

Now those I like.  I have Sabelt harnesses fitted to my seats, that although very secure, give restricted forward movement for reaching switches etc when strapped in.

I was considering going back to standard seat belt, but that is now another option.

Yeah Dale they worked well for me - not being able to move in fixed harnesses was a right ballache. The reel part is adjustable which means whatever angle the reel is fitted at it can be spun around so it's 'vertical' if you know what i mean. As in a standard inertia reel will only work if it's fitted vertically and square.

Full harness belts are a ball ache to get in and out of especially if you’ve got bucket seats. Plus any rear seat passengers don’t appreciate the rear strap going through their crotch 😳😳😳

Thanks guys, some good thoughts there.

I was hoping to avoid having to get a plate up inside the B-Pillar, but didn't like the idea of full harnesses restriction either.  MeXEco, those retractable harnesses look like they'd be perfect.👌 and I guess if I want proper harnesses further down the line, I can still use the same mounting points anyway.

If I do change my mind for some reason, would you be able to send me some dims and / or images as to where the 3 point Anglia anchor points would be?

I'm not too worried about rear passengers either, but I'd like to keep the seats in place for looks and just find a way to mount the harness through the gap

Don't have any pics unfortunately - but the harness fitting instructions should give you a base idea where the mounting points need to go, and as long as they floor is reinforced and the mounts are roughly in the right area it should be fine.
