chinkamon Posted June 4, 2021 Report Posted June 4, 2021 Went to check on the cortina after work. An seen the back headlining has fallen whilst sat in storage🤷🏻♂️ looked to see what's going on but I've never fitted a headliner before? Anyone any hints?
katana Posted June 4, 2021 Report Posted June 4, 2021 Its maybe been installed without removing the glass and rubbers? Ideally, you get the body of the headliner taut all over and wrapped over the window rubber body flanges - some people glue, some hold with clips whilst installing the rubber seals. This traps the vinyl and the glass reinstallation locks it in place. I've never done one just seen how after removing windows. 1
Johnny Boy Posted June 4, 2021 Report Posted June 4, 2021 I think you will need to take the rear window out and reglue it. Looks like the plastic ends of the wire retainer have broken, as its fallen down also ? 1

I poked my phone up in the lining an then my hand, the bars are all in place although one was out on one end but I placed it back in, but it won't sit up like the others, it wants to push down rather than up an I can't change its mind, it seems to pull straight when I pull the lining back tight but I can't get it to fix anywhere, without removing the glass and or seal 😭😭
notenoughtime Posted June 4, 2021 Report Posted June 4, 2021 Looks like the bars have dropped but needs to fit under rear screen 1
chinkamon Posted June 7, 2021 Author Report Posted June 7, 2021 Any hints an tips for glass removal and refitting?
katana Posted June 7, 2021 Report Posted June 7, 2021 From what i've seen / heard - buy a new rubber then you can cut the face off the old one to make glass removal easier and less likely to crack it! It can be done the 'hard way' but risk of cracking goes up massively! Its not a job I'd want to tackle so i'd bottle it and get an AutoGlass guy in! 1
colr6 Posted June 7, 2021 Report Posted June 7, 2021 If it’s original rubber definitely get a new one. It’s a case of centre trim removal, cut rubber , take the glass and remaining rubber out. Fitting is quite easy, rubber round screen, use good quality string in the recess of rubber with the ends at the bottom. plenty of fairy liquid. Drop bottom of rubber over lip of body where it sits and start pulling the string out around screen, it’s better if you can have someone tapping screen with the palm as you move round easing the rubber around the car lip. Now the replacement of the chrome trim, you will need a screen fitting tool to do it, can be done with a screw driver but you’ll have a 99% chance of splitting the rubber. As for getting a windscreen company to do it, if round here is anything to go by they won’t touch them once you start mentioning chrome inserts. 1
chinkamon Posted June 7, 2021 Author Report Posted June 7, 2021 Thanks guys, as always, much appreciated, Now next question, who's close to Hereford and fancies fitting a rear screen for me while I walk away and don't look 🤣🤣
