Asking for a friend....honest

I'm helping a mate pick up a 1969 Beetle tomorrow, and he'll probably need some help along the way with technical help etc.

Does anyone know of any friendly and not cliquey classic VW Forums they could recommend?

@The Transplanter is a VW guy as I recall, I haven't seen him on here in a long time now though unfortunately

Im back having just added a MK1 Escort to my long list of project cars 😄

Unfortunately I wouldn't have been able to help BaileyMex as im more into the water cooled VW's. Even then, most forums have died a death because of FB 😒

Faceache has killed many a forum its true. We have an alter ego there ourselves but its here all the good and generous members hang out. When it joins its earlier siblings like Friendster and MySpace they will all fall back on the dependable OSF Forum.

For me FB is sometimes way too open, I don't share much on FB about my car.

I hate it when businesses, news and even some government information are blocked unless I sign in to one of their accounts. When I have phoned companies to ask for information instead they say its all on our FB page which I tell them I haven't got and often they don't believe me nor care if I don't buy things from them. Everyone has FB they say. I know some who wont even use the internet or a ATM still so they are slowly being cut off from society in general. Ive just gotten mum to use a DVD player over a VHS machine, boy was that painful! She thinks streaming means having a long wee!

I started a VW forum back in 2003 and it grew and grew. About 5 years ago it started slowing down because accessing social media was easier to navigate on smart phones. Plus many forums were targeted by Spam Bots (a cynic would say that these bots were FB, Twitter & Instagram funded!) which was a complete PITA and then there was the saga with photbucket which destroyed many a peoples build threads if they didnt use the forum image uploader! In the end it was hardly used for new content, but had over 100 people viewing the site at any given time just searching for info, so I shut it down for good last year. I still have a dump of the DB so could resurrect it if things change!

Easy access, unfortunately open source forum software has dropped behind against these giants.

FB is pretty crap for car stuff, the knowledge is to general & fluid to create any real community, but im an old CU next Tuesday and dont know what the kids want 😆
