Ok guys, just want an idea of what you fellas use on your motors. I've just picked up a new set of solid drilled and grooved discs that a local rally driver ordered by mistake. Im running M16 calipers so was wondering what the best combination of disc and pad is? I don't do track days and wouldn't say I'm a 'fast' road driver. 20220505_172019.thumb.jpg.d70b0c838044a7023142297374db0e51.jpg

HI Gareth_C_79.

Fast Road use i would suggest mintex 1144. 0r 1155 compounds. depending on how  hard a braker you are.

there are so many different brake types out there . i think its down to personal taste,

in my current project im gona try EBC Yellowstuff, as ive never tried them before. ( but i am running 8 pot calipers on front mind )

there will be many comments regarding this topic i would guess.

hope this helps. cheers mike

For your described use - any 'everyday' road orientated pad / OEM fixture will serve you best. You need max friction @ road speeds and from cold. High performance 'road' pads that have poor low temp performance are an accident waiting to happen IMO. Cold temp performance brakes are generally organic material and wear a bit faster but are cheaper. Changing cheaper pads maybe a year earlier than performance varieties isn't such a bad thing if they 'just work'.

On My MK1 Cortina, I use Capri 2.8 vented discs, and EBC GREENSTUFF pads, they are perfect for road use, no warm up needed, and don't seem to fade.

Years ago I used some mintex hard compound type pads , on an Astra, and they were awful for the first few applications, dangerous in fact, but I'm sure good in a track day situation.

Always been fond of Ferodo DS Performance for every day road use on my solid disk cars. It gives the same friction as their performance favourites like the DS2500 but dont need to heat them up to get them to work like the track pads. If you want to do track use then the reverse would be true, the DS would probably overheat in that situation.
