sierra3dr Posted October 14, 2022 Report Posted October 14, 2022 Just watched an episode of Wheeler Dealers and Brewer had taken a suspension part to Wheel Alignment & Ball Joint Centre Ltd where polymer was melted and injected into the ball joint. This would save scrapping Track Control Arms,as the internal soxket is made from plastic from Fords factory
Admin Vista Posted October 14, 2022 Admin Report Posted October 14, 2022 I watched that episode too, that was on the SL 500 AMG wasn't it? I have to say that I had my doubts about the longevity of that repair with all the weight of that V8 sat over it. 1
sierra3dr Posted October 14, 2022 Author Report Posted October 14, 2022 Yes,that's the correct episode. Well,we can only test case the refurb, and come to a conclusion on our Fords. I have a Capri that might need the TCA's doing,so I might try the repair place
Vista Estate Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 The other interesting part was the addition of a grease nipple. This is a crucial element for longevity. We know these are important as classic car owners but i wonder if the new Merc owner will get their hands dirty. It won't be on the service list at the Merc dealer.
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted October 16, 2022 Moderator Report Posted October 16, 2022 In the case of Escorts though is it economically viable? The last set of control arms I bought were cheaper than buying bushes separately. The weight and quality seem as good as originals that I dont know how they can make them for the price but they do. I suspect this process is for odd classics who arent as fortunate enough to have a good source or replacements 1 1
