wagonwx Posted October 27, 2022 Report Posted October 27, 2022 Before I get wheels refurbished and new tyres what would be a sensible amount to lower car by without any clearance issues . Plan on 185/60/13 tyres
DT36 Posted October 27, 2022 Report Posted October 27, 2022 I have those on a 7" rim. Was lowered by 2" with no issues, but now riding at 1" to stop my exhaust dragging on speed bumps.

YellowTaxi Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 Old classic tyre sizes are a nightmare. You can look at two 185/60 13 tyres from different manufacturers and they will be a totally different width and profile. My advice is to look at tyres fitted to a car next time your at a car show and if you like them buy the same. I have wasted tons of money on tyres trying to get the look right.
Johnny Boy Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 185/60/13 on my MK1 Cortina,5 1/2 in rims, and that's 2-3 inches lowered. Dives great, less than 60 profile, I'd imagine gets a bit bumpy

I took a photo of a 7" Superlite with a Yokohama 185/60 x 13 at a car show (seem to have deleted or lost the photo) that was fitted to a Sierra, from the side the tyre looked like a balloon, a much higher profile that the '60' would suggest which makes me wonder if fitting a 175 would have stretched it more. I've seen a Mk2 Escort with 175/60 x 13 Toyo (possibly Proxes CP1) on 7" Superlites and it looks spot on. Maybe a section dedicated to photos of wheel/tyre (make, width ET, etc) combination might be useful as it's a question that seems to crop up quite often!
BIG G Posted November 14, 2022 Report Posted November 14, 2022 (edited) I run 185/60s NS2r's on my 8" minilites and they dont really look stretched but the side wall is massive compared to other 60s on the market. Edited November 14, 2022 by BIG G 1
YellowTaxi Posted November 14, 2022 Report Posted November 14, 2022 Yep, Thats the problem, tyre size on older sizes has little relevance on what they actually measure.
