Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Burtons again .. 48DCO/SP are £425.00 (inc VAT) do £850 a pair average linkage is ...........................£80 so thats bust ya £800 for the carbs and all the parts to fit Don't buy them at burtons then , burtons want £769 + VAT for the conrods you'll need if you put your foot down more than once in a duratec !!!!!!! And yet the man from Cosworth said the Duratec rods where good for 7500rpm... and your saying shift up at 7200 in the pinto..
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Oh and Burtons want £1,012.50 (inc.Vat) for a race head without the came and vernier .. And gucci want £2000 for a handbag to put your duratec bits in !!!!!!!! But Gucci dont do cylinder heads on a more serious point Gaz ... is this engine a 210 bhp 2000cc SOHC (pinto) for £3500 plus the building.. ready to race for waht.. Give me a ready to run price and i'll let a few people who are racing with Pintos know that Gaz Engines is starting up. Like its been said Gaz (and advertised) for around 4 k you can have a 197bhp 2000cc fuel injected , dry sumped Duratec .. oooooh in the winter when the snows on the ground ..run outside ..stick key in ignition , crank it and run back inside to the warm while it fast idles itself till hot..when the revs drop, you know its time to leave the house and get in a warm and friendly street car Dream on mate , my mates pinto started first time and ran nicely on wednesday night down to the pub meet and it was freezing cold . As for the engine prices i can get 10 lots of machining done including pistons for much , much less than that price list . You can't get a duratec with a dry sump , full engine management , fitted + driving about in an escort for £4000 . If you believe that then you are losing it mate !!!!!!

Yes only if using the £150 pistons , they aren't as good or strong as the forged ones . The rods i was talking about won't break at 7200 though . The pistons in a standard duratec ain't no good anyway , or the rods
emu Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 burtons want £769 + VAT for the conrods you'll need if you put your foot down more than once in a duratec !!!!!!! As far as I can tell there is nothing up with any of the engines being discussed. It doesnt matter what it is, pinto, zetec, duratec or elastic band powered propellor. If you give ANY engine an abnormal level of abuse then it'll go bang.

Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 And yet the man from Cosworth said the Duratec rods where good for 7500rpm... and your saying shift up at 7200 in the pinto.. The pistons in a standard duratec ain't no good anyway , or the rods I thought I might chime in here as I have been deeply involved in the development and marketing of the Cosworth line of Duratec Parts and engines. Basically the Duratec engine is an excellent platform for modifications. The block is well designed and the correct head is more than sufficient for decent power. We change the rods when power over 200HP is desired and the original crank is good for about 260HP. Above 260, many items need serious attention such as the cam drive components and crankshaft. However a solid 250+ is easily achievable with the right cams and very mild head work. On our 250 spec engines, we use original valves and retainers only replacing the springs with up-rated versions. Oiling can be an issue as well and a dry sump system is ideal for conversions as the added clearance will be required to clear cross members. We have seen some oil surge problems with low profile wet sumps. I am currently investigating the Mazda MX5 sump as an alternative for dry sumps in engine swap applications. If I can be of any service, please feel free to contact me. ken.anderson@cosworth.com They only change the rods when going from 200 to 250.. after that a lot gets change, just like it does in a pinto when going for a high rever ..
Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 And... i still say that this price of £8454.13p is the bollox for this http://www.cosworth.com/shop_item.php?productid=426 How much for a 250 horse x-flow...? aint happening How much for a 250 horse XE? How much for a 250 horse 2.3 SOHC ? And now its time to retire to the bar
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 In answering your question , i'm not selling engines am i ? You asked for the cost of a 190+ bhp pinto and i gave you one . You could do it much cheaper too , in fact i could beat your £5000+ 190 bhp duratec install using a pinto with standard crank , standard rods , cheap cast pistons and using only a modified head , cam and dcoes for less than £2000 new !!!!!!!!! Yes the £8500 + vat so £13,000 cosworth duratec is a nice piece of kit , but at that price so would my nans lawn mower engine !!!!!!!! If your really after a standard engine install with some decent performance for less money and grief than a duratec then just use an XE . They are so much better + stronger than the mazda duratec lump as standard , in fact they really fly with a few mods and fit easier + cheaper . A duratec has a good head and the rest is shit , perhaps we can fit a duratec head on a pinto , then it would fit in an escort cheap and move a bit faster !!!!!!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 And that ladies and gentleman is game , set and match to Gaz . Retro and all his "trader" mates can go away and build an escort with one of those 190 bhp £5000+ standard duratec installs and then bring it up the Pod for some action . If it's any good and beats the pintos + XE's and is as cheap , then we'll all buy them . Until that day then it's only hype .
Retromotorsport Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 As i thought... Mk1 GAz is getting his prices from Gazicstan .. where vat is a lot higher .. and Pinto's are VAT free .. Yes the £8500 + vat so £13,000 just another example of the bullshit Gaz spreads about other products not aimed at the great Pinto .. that engine that has done so well in the past and will do for many years to come. I dont know if anyone else has noticed , but no one on here has rubbished the pinto.. all this thread is about is Gaz not liking anything he hasnt had or wants .. in his mind its all shit So he wont answer my questions .. just bounces around them with bullshite. £8500 +VAT @17.5% = £9987.50 .... not the Gazicstani VAT price of £13000 One of the best Engine builders around builds countless race winning 2000cc Pinto engines and he will only say they will be around 190bhp .. and you wont get one from him for less than 5k . And thats what i base my FACTS on.. this same engine builder has said the Duratec is a good engine, but like most engines when you push then harder they need pistons cranks and rods... same as any engine going past the 8000rpm levels (and no Gaz we are not talking S2000 engines here , just Fords) FACTS remain.. For around 5k you can have a 197bhp Duratec installed and running For around 5k you can have a 190bhp Pinto installed and running The only difference being one engine will last around a race track on a trackday as it has a dry sump system and it also has fuel injection, sounds the same as carbs, just a lot more reliable. So please people ... Go and talk to Ron @ HPE, Arron @ HT, Peter @ Scholar, etc .. ask them what they can do for you and when you decide what engine you fancy go and buy you mounts bellhousings etc and go and have fun.. with your choice.. not mine (as i dont acctually give a flying f**k what engine you use) or Gaz's choice of the Pinto or nothing . And one last word ... Ron, if you've been following this with a chuckle, may you keep chuckling for many years in your retirement. Well done for all you achieved in the last 30-40 years of engine building. I salute you Sir And good luck to Jeff .

Craig, Alex, Andy,Peter, Nigel, Pig, Ray are all still waiting for you to race them ... They are being patient .. as you said last september when you where slagging off the Duratec .. " I'll have my 16valve Pinto in and working in 5 minutes" Is it running yet Gaz? Ahh no... because you need this bit and that bit and theis bit dosnt fit my engine because its a standard pinto.. shame
Rick Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 i always love reading your replies to post like this retro you know your stuff its hard to argue with a numbskull though, they dont even realise theyre losing
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Blimey such waffle as usual . Firstly your £10,000 duratec WILL need another £3000 to get it in the car and working though won't it ? , hence £13,000 for an engine that will have £3500 pintos sitting on it's arse in a race . You can't fit and get working a duratec in an escort that's faster than a pinto unless you spend twice as much money at least , maybe nearly 3 times !!!!!!! . You can build a £2000 pinto that will beat your 190 bhp £5000 duratec hairdryer package no sweat . I don't just like pintos though do i ? I'm saying that all the usual motors around are much better than duratecs , the only duratec engine that's any good is one of those BIG MONEY ones . An £8000 XE ,atmo YB , S2000 , Zetec , Renault , Volvo etc etc WILL be just as good though , so it's best to use the one that FITS the best and the cheapist then . I still reckon a 170-180 bhp pinto will beat a 190-200 bhp duratec allday long in a race off the lights , so you bring one and see what happens
Wessie Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 GAZ ! SHUT UP ! get out on the track and race all these boys you said you would race, stop winding people up - its your personal choice what engine you want to use, everyones different
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 GAZ ! SHUT UP ! get out on the track and race all these boys you said you would race, stop winding people up - its your personal choice what engine you want to use, everyones different why don't you shut up mate , I'VE offered to race ALL retro mates race cars already and they won't turn up . If you think i'm not going to reply to questions aimed at me by retro then your very mistaken . So unless you've got something decent to say then you shut up and p... off somewhere else !!!!!!!!!!!
over_head_cam Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Yeah wessie. P.. off after all you only come to OSF to air YOUR opinions on what YOU think is good and to tell everyone else that their choices are SHIT
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Go and buy a £5000 190 bhp ( more like 180 bhp if your foooookin lucky ) duratec install and bring it up the pod for some action and show us what it can do then . Until THAT day it's all hype
Retromotorsport Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Go and buy a £5000 190 bhp ( more like 180 bhp if your foooookin lucky ) duratec install and bring it up the pod for some action and show us what it can do then . Until THAT day it's all hype Or you put your screaming " atmo 16valve pinto " round brands like you said you would.. The first pintos's were 100bhp the first Duratec beat it standard for standard the duratec wins with 30 odd years of race breeding the duratec will piss on your bonfire gaz as it already has in every other race 'except drag racing ..which is of course the pinnicle of motorsport which is why all the works teams have dragcars ... (not a dig at Dragracing, just a dig at Gaz's blinkered attitude) and that is my final word on this thread
RETRO_AL Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 gaz cant you ever talk about anything else? its the same shit over and over again, you like the village idiot of the forums

I've said i'll beat your £5000 190 bhp duratec install with a £2000 pinto install so get one and i'll prove it . I will race your race car buddys around brands hatch + up the quarter mile but they won't play unless they can use slicks and have a 300 kilo weight advantage so fit road tyres and get them to the same weight as mine and turn up
GT_Jim Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Had to laugh at the zetec story above . Fit a zetec and it will run 15's or 16's and never get in the 13's even if you spent a fortune tuning it . How many fast zetecs have we seen in the last 15 years then , errrrr NONE , but there's tons of quick pintos !!!!!!! Vauxhalls are miles better than zetecs , zetecs are shit , that's why they cost £20 sorry to take a step back but a guy i used to work with fitted a standard 2 litre running on webbers to a mk2 fezza and that ran a 13 second quarter so it can be done with low costs
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 gaz cant you ever talk about anything else?its the same shit over and over again, you like the village idiot of the forums that's because the same idiots post up shit on all the forums and then start crying when they can't prove nothing . It's the same old story , all the retromotorsports hangeroners ganging up with nothing to say except cobblers !!!!!!!!
