Yes but a standard pinto install is a few hundred quid and a standard duratec install is 5 grand !!!!!!!!

 

to fit a duratec in an escort ...

and thats the lot .. they fit end of the bullshit

 

it dosnt cost 5k .. gaz

 

unless you are talking the standard Duratec that the sports 2000 cars use .. then yes that a drysumped fuelinjected 190 odd bhp engine running in an escort for around 5 k .. 6k tops

And if anyone is wondering what Gaz was talking about with the racers cheating..

Andy pipe offered to buy gaz some slicks .. and hes also said he will run on treads

and he also said if he has to ballast his mk1 up to gazes weight (which hasnt been weighed yet) the gaz should ballest his up to match the power to weight of each car.

Fairs fair i say ... andy adds some treads and 100kg and gaz adds 400kg to equal his power to weight to Andys car

250bhp versus 150bhp ..

 

but that all talk... just do a frigging lap in your car Gaz..without all the bleating and his cars lighter .. his cars this and i'll beat him on the race track (the drag race track)

Sorry Gaz I'm not a Retro hanger on, I've never met him (or you) I do like my Pinto and it has cost me a big wad to get it up to the power levels you're talking about. An amount I would not have spent had it not been a genuine RS. All the research I did led me to the inescapable fact that I'd be better off with a modern engine in terms of power output and driveability, and if I had a non AVO car that's exactly what I would have done. PLUS power without strength is kind of pointless in my opinion, why spend £2000 on a budget performance pinto if you'll break it quick style the first time you really want to give it some stick, isn't that false economy? Hence a sizeable chink of my budget was for forged pistons, stronger rods (BTW yes diesel rods can be had for around £100 but to be really worth having they need considerable machining in terms of lightening and balancing), rod bolts etc etc. My head alone was around £1500 of the £2k figure you're quoting for the budget 200bhp pinto and that's without carbs and manifolds.

 

What I see in this thread is retro repeatedly quoting prices and facts that can be verified

 

What I see you doing is throwing out the same tired record again and again with absolutely nothing to back it up. I've seen a Zetec install in a mk1 Escort pushing out around 170bhp and there's no way it cost anything like the figures you're quoting to do.

 

So I guess what I'm saying is if you want to be taken seriously in this thread back your arguments up with some hard facts that anyone reading it can go out and verify, it just isn't enough to keep repeating the same statement again and again. You must have heard what happened to the boy that cried wolf? If not I'll explain, EVERYONE stopped listening to him.

I'm not bothered what some people think of my price list really but you can beat a £5000 190 bhp duratec with a £2000 pinto install AND WHEN retro finds one i will :thumbsup:

your neither as i dont know who is driving what and what they are like on a track once thats been established you can set your rules so that they are as fair as possible
