4parajon Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Bloody hell thats strong, mine was about 5k and that included the install although the comparison between mine and Vista's (not Andy's as I assume that is a "race engine" spec) as I dont think my engine builder has a lot of "overheads" and the install was almost a straight forward swap. But its each to there own, I wanted what Ive got and Vista's got what he wanted
over_head_cam Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I could never justify spending the mad prices that I've seen. I know you are paying for experience and quality, but I just couldn't give someone 4 months wages for an engine. No way.

Thats everything, engine, box exhaust mainfold, clutch, prop, drysump set up complete.
over_head_cam Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 long live the 1.3 Er... not entirely accurate
Wessie Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 long live the 1.3 Er... not entirely accurate well g on the 1.3 ! untill it gets taken out

I know you are paying for experience and quality, but I just couldn't give someone 4 months wages for an engine. No way. A competitive BDA ... ITRO £25,000 and thats just from the front pully to the flywheel ... Then you need a rebuild every few thousand miles ..some screamers are rebuilt or inspected after every event. And what does that BDA give ya.. 300 horse if its a really good one. Would Andy Pipe like one ... you bet he would ..
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 the wet sump you saw at the autosport show was shallow you say gaz? that was for a lotus, you say, is it the same as the escort ones then? or would the escort one possibly be deeper? The wet sump at the autosport show was designed to fit a duratec ( which is a very tall engine ) into a replica lotus 7 kit car thing . I suppose it would fit in an escort but not sure . The thing is that to get any power from a duratec you have to rev the tits of it and the standard bottom ends are shite so the oil supply is very critical . That's why all the engine kits ( even retros £3500 kit he keeps harping on about ) feature a dry sump system for mk1/2 escort use . The wet sumps should be ok but the blokes on the cosworth stand reckoned it's the wrong thing to do on this engine conversion , especially if doing trackdays + doughnuts etc

Guest MK1gaz Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 . I could price up a 200+ pinto for you if you like as i've got a price list next to me . Well go on then ... its all ive been after so the readers can compare the price and make a choice .. so i'll ask again There's lots of ways to do it some are MUCH more costly than others because of the difference in the parts used . Also some places/people will charge you more or less money for some of the parts + machine work but these prices are about right . A pinto is a simple motor and most people could assemble one or most of it themselves , the cam fitting and geometry MUST be done by someone who knows what they're doing as this is where a top pinto will beat a diy one in a race . I'll do you a killer Pinto price list for a 210 bhp motor that will shit all over your duratec install in a race ....................Top end first = Full race head complete with cam , vernier , valves , cam belt etc etc all machined/ported etc £900 (you can do it alot cheaper but this price is for quality proffesional porting etc ) . Twin 48's all complete with manifold , linkage etc ready to run and brand new £800 ( you could use secondhand ones at £350 ) . Bottom end = forged pistons £500 , x-flow or diesil 1600 conrods £100 , h.p. oil pump £40 , water pump £25 , cossie rod bolts £50 , gasket set £45 , modified dizzy £160 , bearings £80 , clutch £200 , machine work including rebore , lighten + balance , deck block , machine rods + pistons to fit is £400 , petrol pump + reg £60 , Then all you need is an rs2000 sump + engine mounts £150 and it fits in the car , so no expensive conversion parts at all . You can do a 190 bhp one much cheaper as you could use cast pistons at £150 a set instead of the forged ones and change up at 7200 rpm , also the head would be cheaper as the mods aren't as extreme to reach the lower power level . Labour to build the engine depends on who does it , diy = £0 , cosworths = £1,000,000 . So a proper angry snorting top spec reliable race pinto that really goes like foooook is approx £ 3500 . Don't forget you'll need an £8000+ duratec install to keep up with it in a race because a pinto goes much better than it's "peak bhp" level suggests

RETRO_AL Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 a cosworth bigwing and gated sump is £160 with a exchange
emu Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 especially if doing trackdays + doughnuts etc Hold on a second everyone.........I think its important to mark this moment.............Gaz has suggested that a car can actually be used to go in circles as well as 1/4 mile long straight lines WE HAVE PROGRESS
Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 fair enough those prices Gaz.. so £3500 for a load of bits that need putting together .. I for one wouldnt be able to do it as i know fook all about engine internals .. and for that price the Duratec comes with the dry sump YOU say they need and the ECU and throttle bodies .. hmmmm. And just to clarafiy a point ... is that for a 2000cc engine ??? Oh and Burtons want £1,012.50 (inc.Vat) for a race head without the came and vernier ..
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Oh and Burtons want £1,012.50 (inc.Vat) for a race head without the came and vernier .. And gucci want £2000 for a handbag to put your duratec bits in !!!!!!!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 especially if doing trackdays + doughnuts etc Hold on a second everyone.........I think its important to mark this moment.............Gaz has suggested that a car can actually be used to go in circles as well as 1/4 mile long straight lines WE HAVE PROGRESS MINES A ROAD CAR , it goes around more corners than the "trailer them everywhere " trackday queens will ever do !!!!!!!!
Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Burtons again .. 48DCO/SP are £425.00 (inc VAT) do £850 a pair average linkage is ...........................£80 so thats bust ya £800 for the carbs and all the parts to fit
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 and for that price the Duratec comes with the dry sump YOU say they need and the ECU and throttle bodies .. hmmmm. But the duratec prices you quote don't include a new rebuilt engine or the conversion costs . The 190 bhp £5000+ duratec will get it's arse handed to it in a race as well
Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Oh and Burtons want £1,012.50 (inc.Vat) for a race head without the came and vernier .. And gucci want £2000 for a handbag to put your duratec bits in !!!!!!!! But Gucci dont do cylinder heads on a more serious point Gaz ... is this engine a 210 bhp 2000cc SOHC (pinto) for £3500 plus the building.. ready to race for waht.. Give me a ready to run price and i'll let a few people who are racing with Pintos know that Gaz Engines is starting up. Like its been said Gaz (and advertised) for around 4 k you can have a 197bhp 2000cc fuel injected , dry sumped Duratec .. oooooh in the winter when the snows on the ground ..run outside ..stick key in ignition , crank it and run back inside to the warm while it fast idles itself till hot..when the revs drop, you know its time to leave the house and get in a warm and friendly street car
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Burtons again .. 48DCO/SP are £425.00 (inc VAT) do £850 a pair average linkage is ...........................£80 so thats bust ya £800 for the carbs and all the parts to fit Don't buy them at burtons then , burtons want £769 + VAT for the conrods you'll need if you put your foot down more than once in a duratec !!!!!!!
Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 and for that price the Duratec comes with the dry sump YOU say they need and the ECU and throttle bodies .. hmmmm. But the duratec prices you quote don't include a new rebuilt engine or the conversion costs . The 190 bhp £5000+ duratec will get it's arse handed to it in a race as well And yet it dosnt in sports 2000 .... it wins and they win in countless other formula
Retromotorsport Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Burtons again .. So where on the web is this price list then that your working from... come on gaz.. i've posted the link so everyone can see what and where from they can get the bits .. or is it from Gaz'es Fast Engine Parts unit 1 gasoline ally Gazicstan somewhere south of the thames Its no good slating others people prices when you dont post your sources .. because i for one think those prices are the bees knees .. and if true i'd be sending people there all day long Infact only last week someone was asking about a Pinto for the road and a bit of trackday ... i pointed them in HPE's direction as they are great engines for little outlay
