Cleaning and protecting foam / rubber rear spoilers

As the topic title suggests what are members thoughts or experiences in the best way / products etc  to clean and protect  the rear rubber/ foam  spoilers on  fiestas / escorts etc the one off my car  is in very good condition but just needs a clean then protecting and bringing back to the nice black colour it should be any help/ advice would be gratefully received .

Hi Dave,

 

I use Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care. It really is a great product for rubber seals, tyres etc. I have had some great results using on tyres, it gives that lovely new look, without the over the top gloss look.

I am sure the Autloglym Bumper and Trim Gel is as good.

I used to use boot polish on a vinyl roof on a Opel kadett C i had years ago it always came up nice .

While I used the Autoglym Gel for sometime as it gave a great sheen to faded rubber and plastic parts it offers absolutely no UV protection whatsoever. Here especially UV rays are rubber spoiler destroyers. Back when new Ford was even forced to replace the under warranty (only 12 months) as these things were so susceptible to it. Ten years into the secondhand market they were severely damaged. Most didnt even realise they had a smooth surface originally. While Armor All offer UV protection it created its own host of problems that if you stopped using it the rubber and vinyls would dry out with disastrous cracking. Only solution was keep the spoiler out of the sun as much as possible (difficult for an every day car at the time) but inspired the creation of the spoiler cover! 😀

I found that thinker gels and liquids work better than the traditional spray on stuff and recently I discovered a new product from the Chemical Guys. Called VPR.

Its thick like a gel and it also is the first I have found that offers good UV protection without the side effects of drying out plastics and rubbers. I also found it to keep my rear window louvre looking new. Very happy with the product but it does have one drawback. Its pretty expensive but you can make it go a long way if you are frugal in the way you apply it.

Thanks rallypack  that’s really interesting , because my spoiler is in really good condition I want to give it the best chance of staying that way ,not that’s it’s going to live in the sun but it will be out in it hopefully one day , VRP sounds a good product from what you’re saying .

I used to use armourall ??????? On my rubber spoiler and tyres.........always bought them up a treat......
