RFChris Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 I want really low profile tyres for my steels. People keep telling me that i can only go as low as 60 profile otherwise I'll throw the speedo out. I tell them i don;t care, they still don't listen. I want some really low profile rubber! Can anyone recommend a firm that can supply them? Ta muchly, Chris
Wessie Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 what size ? 165?175?185?195?205? cos as far as i was led to believe the '60' or '50' was only a proportion to the width of the tyres, not a given measurement as such
ExotronGammaPlusSequencer Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 As above,so it depends how wide your rims are. 175/50s are the norm but they bulge a bit on my 5.5js. I did run 165 60s on one of my old mk1s with 5 inch rims they looked pretty low

I know nothing about tyres.
ExotronGammaPlusSequencer Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 175 50s on the front -195 45s on the rear *edit* if they are 13" that is !
orionmojo Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 it will throw the speedo out, but if you dot care why do they? probably the lowest you can go is 40 and i had some on my onion for abit. i dot recommend that. horrile ride quality and manhole covers sound and feel like craters in the road. 50's are a nice compromise i find. they look sporty enough and have the rigidity but still look nice wrapped on alloys.
Stu_B Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 I have 235/50's on the back, & 175/50's on the front, both wheels are 13x7's!! Even though they're both 50's the difference in the sidewall is massive!
BIGKEV Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 kumho mate they should sort you out - nice sticky rubber too
Admin Vista Posted March 12, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 12, 2007 Just a thought Chris but have you thought of what they'll look like if you're running standard unlowered suspension? A huge gap between the tyre and the arch looks odd IMHO.
Wessie Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 i think its gonna be slammed vista, but good point !

RFChris Posted March 12, 2007 Author Report Posted March 12, 2007 Did you manage to get hold of 3" springs? well, i did.....and i have them on order from Rallydesign. The only thing is i'm seeing a car next week and the guy has some lowering springs that i can have, and they'll be a damn site cheaper than RD. If the ones from this guy are at least 2" i'll have them, if not i'll see the RD order through. Chris
mk1mexico Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 50 profile means 50% of the width if i remember right. So a 195/50 tyre will have approx 97mm sidewalls
Wessie Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 even though i've never driven the anglia im not a big fan of the lowering blocks . . . i've got 2 inch ones on there at the moment and i just feel that when i floor it theres gonna be alot of stress (when accelerating and going sideways) on the saddles/springs etc because the axle is sitting higher then it is designed to. to overcome this problem im linking it ! but chris would it be better to try and get your springs decambered 2 inches for example, then if you wanted to go lower you can use 1 inch lowering blocks the above probably doesnt make sense
yellowperil Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Got 2 inch blocks on the back of my anglia and had them on the last one, they were welded on and they never gave me any trouble no matter the amount of abuse..
Stu_B Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Can't fit lowering blocks on mk3/4/5 'tina's!
Wessie Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Can't fit lowering blocks on mk3/4/5 'tina's! bollox ! you can fit anything to anything, its just a matter of how much time and money you've got
Stu_B Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 get de-cambered leafs! much better again....no leafs on cortinas!!
orionmojo Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 get de-cambered leafs! much better again....no leafs on cortinas!! since when?
