I say sell. I never regret selling a car. If I did then I wouldn't have thought about selling it in the first place.

I'd never consider selling the Capri (not yet anyway) but I want a 4x4 Cosworth so I'm having to save.

At least you havnt foolishly said ...

" gonna build my car into a gp4 car"

Your car will pay for the chassis work and buying a new shell . 90% of the parts on your car will be useless in the gp4 car so sell yours as a whole clean running car and get a shell .. the shell is all you need to start with ..and get a good one

are you going to buy a ready made gp4 escort ?

why not find a good shell and slowly build it up as money allows ?

then if you decide you need more money you can sell the mexico in your own time and you have a shell ready .

or

put up a wanted ad in the sales section see if any one gets in touch .

if they do , decide from there if its good enough to then put your mex up for sale .

or

get saving and keep the mex . got to think how hard it will be to get another one in the same condition ect .

Hmmm tough call Jay and a dilemma I faced a while back too.

I answered it by asking myself a few hard questions, the first of which was why do I want a group 4 spec shell. Ans Ummm because they look the business and I love the buuble arched look but can't do that to my RS.

I decided that wasn't a great reason and then asked myself a few more questions: -

Am I actually likely to use it to its real potential? Ans Probably not

Am I ever going to compete in anything with it? Again probably not

I also considered the fact that I use my RS alot, I often commute to work in it and I cover a lot of mileage to shows in the summer

So I asked Will I get tired of driving a stripped out race car? Ans probably yes.

I then asked am I really going to get much more enjoyment out of it than I do my current RS. (bearing in mind it's already pretty high spec and is about all anyone would need for general road use) Ans probably not.

So I spent my money making sure the RS was as quick and fun as I needed it to be for general road use. I've no regrets and am glad I chose not to go down the new start with a group 4 shell route.

Good reply Vista............... got me thinking.....

I want one "just because" and no other reason, I used to race motorcycles and have theurge to do hill climbs etc etc BUT it took me over a year to find my current Mexico and I know how hard it is to find another....

In answer to Retro, I would never convert this Mexico to GP4, its too straight and worth more left as is...........

Hmm i would keep the mex.... they can only go up in value as the years go on.... i think its too much of an investment to loose :?

Sounds a bit daft but:

Dont buy an O.S.F for hill climbin etc....

The money u pay out for parts, shell fab etc, u

could spend on, say, a Caterham.

Not an Escort I know, but it wont matter as much if

You prang it.

One thing i've gotta say about a stripped out race car is they can be comfy.. change the springs, wind off the dampers , put your ear plugs in and you could almost be in a Rolls Royce ... almost
#

Granted, but then it's not a race car anymore is it? I guess it then becomes a compromise that's not really ideal for either role begging the question what's the point?

Rolls royce race car? now that could be interesting, does it come with a Chauffeur?

Ahh see thats where your missing the point of a race car ... its a multi adjustable tool that is changed to suit the conditions it is running in.. henec why they can be comfy on the road ... its just that most put up with the hard springs they have been advised to fit ...

And rollers have been racing and rallying for years ... granted not much these days but in the past .. they could be seen gracing the side of the Alps with a brace of Cibies on the front and spare wheels on the roof ..

hehehehehe I love Young Uns easy answer "just save up", blimey..... I wish it was so easy mate to save around £12000 and then justify to the wife spending it on a car....... still.... I see your point... dont sell the Mex

i would say sell it if you find a nice grp4, but you dont wanna sell it then be waiting months/years for a grp4 car cos you'll end up spending the money on something else
