MK II Mark Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Write a letter to the chief constable of that area asking him to advise you on the criteria employed by HIS officers when you were pulled over. And VERY IMPORTANT!!!! never never never give them your drivers license even if you have it as that is seen as an admission of guilt on your behalf, by all means use any other docs/cards to provide ID but not the drivers license, if he wants it then he can request you produce it the local nic. Your not legally obliged to carry your licence with you in the UK. I made the mistake of producing mine once and the officer took the liberty of giving me 3 points providing no evidence or "real" reason other than i was going a bit fast (70 in a 60 dual carridgeway following the flow of traffic). If I hadn't have produced it he would have most likely sent me on my way with a ticking off. It is in fact illegal not to have your driving licence and insurance documents with you whilst your driving a vehicle however it is readily accepted that it is not practicable to have these documents with you all the time. This is why we have a producer which gives you the opportunity to get the relevant documents required by the police officer. Producing your driving licence at the time of you being stopped is not an admission of guilt but maybe the prevention of a trip to the police station at a later date and you being dealt with by the police/courts quicker. If you got three points its because you were speeding and if you felt that there was no evidence you could have contested the matter but if it's one word against the other and the other party is a police officer it is likely that you would be convicted unless you have really strong evidence or you could discredit the officer and prove he was lying.
Admin Vista Posted March 22, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 22, 2007 It is in fact illegal not to have your driving licence and insurance documents with you whilst your driving a vehicle however it is readily accepted that it is not practicable to have these documents with you all the time. That's interesting, every recommendation I've ever been given is that it's not advisable to carry these documents in the car as they make it easier for a thief to claim legitimate ownership of a car should it be stolen, not to mention the risk of identity theft you expose yourself to should the car be stolen. As it happens I always carry my photo card licence in my wallet, but I never keep any documents in the car. It has to be said though, you can be hit with some hefty on the spot fines if you're caught driving on the continent without all of your documents on you.
Rick Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 its the same in any proffession: you get the fair ones, and ones that abuse their position (the ones that were bullied at school) most the coppers iv encountered arent too bad, even let me off on various occassions. then you do get the twat that thinks hes overly important, but if your all legal theres nothing he can do. i got copped doin 70+ in a 30 mph zone on the way to work one mornin. the bloke pulled me and said 'in a rush to get to work mate' (looking at my posty uniform) i just said yeah sorry. he sent me on my way after a brief telling off. now if he was a twat id prob b banned for that

I think its why the law is never enforced and the HORT/1 was introduced as it recognised the circumstances you described.
Johnson Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 lol at sam, i got pulled years back and they did a vehicle check, the plod thought i was being smart when i told him the colour was coral beige with a moca brown interior
V8ian Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Last time I got a tug in the Cortina, all I was asked incrediously. "HOW OLD ARE YOU"

antz Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 ive never been pulled but when the AA man was picking me up once (exhaust fell off just after the manifold) he was looking around suspiciously then was asking me about osf
Fiesta Steve Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 I got followed down the M20 by the fuzz a couple of years ago from Maidstone to Ashford after going to a party. I got on the motorway accelarated upto 100 mph and didn't slow down untill I got off at Ashford. I didn't realise I was being followed as they kept there distance. When I pulled off the motorway they pulled me up, i'd been drinking but luckly just scrapped through the breath test. I got a ticking off but the fuzz just sent me on my way !!! So there not all bad.
Mr.Sumo Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 I agree with most of the comments made ....at the end of the day theres good and bad in everyone On a plus note , when i had the fatal on the M20 last year ( a 20 year old kid walked out in front of my artic at 56mph....need i say more )...the traffic cops where fantastic.... .......on the down side i"ve been nicked for " foul and abusive language " , fined £60 , 3 hours in the cells ...for calling a bloke dressed up as a kangaroo outside Jongluers in Reading a " fcukin twat ! " ...... I don"t envy a coppers job and i wouldn"t want to be one ......what worries me more is I DIDN"T KNOW WE HAD SO MANY ON HERE !!!!!!!!!!
Mr Sam Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 PMSL!!!!!! it was just the general harrasmant and intent on trying to intmidate me just because im young and driving an old car unfortunatly for them i had all documents on me so they didnt have a leg to stand on with it passing an MOT less than a week ago aswell so nothings out of place and yes there are good ones out there, i got stopped in kettering on the way to pod for....."driving a stolen car" WTF!!!!! anyway i told them i was utterly lost and they kindy gave me directions to the pod
tim Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 ive not read all 3 pages but this would b a different post if your car had been stolen and the same said copper pulled your car over for 'driving like a twat' or just general check.hes just doin a job just like the rest of us do,if youve not done ne thing wrong then u dont have 2 worry
V8ian Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 .what worries me more is I DIDN"T KNOW WE HAD SO MANY ON HERE !!!!!!!!!! What worries me more I have 4 members of the Constabulary living in my road of 30 houses, and I only know who two of them are, I only know that cos the detective who lives near me let it slip, and he has been out in the Cortina for a full BANZI half hour, and has never stopped talking about it since.
peranapete Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Where are they when you want them !!!!! Being a f**king pain when you dont !!!!!
xpackken Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 As already said i was running a 2.1 pinto in my capri 1.6laser shell a few years ago and i was pulled over . the copper looked under the bonnet fooks knows what for because he didnt spot the 40s .. you got good ones and bad one my encounter have allways been good ones except whenive been d&d when i was younger lol _________________ West Nile Virus Forum

Fiesta Steve Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I have heard that they are normal people
Jay_harrier Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 What does annoy me is the level of ego & arrogance of some of the force, the times I've been pulled over as a bike rider is plain ridiculous & not for doing daft stunts either, Reasons: "Your visor didn't look like its BS approved" - eh? how can you tell that at 50mph "There's a number of bikes in the area with false number plates held on with velcro, how's yours fixed on" - two plastic screws, use your eyes. "How did you scuff your kneesliders?", I fell over in the garage... "Your chain looked slack" - correctly adjusted with 35mm drop... "Your leathers are scuffed, why?" I fell over in the garage... "You looked as if you'd been racing" - 6 of us doing 30 in a 30 at 8am Sunday morning. These are all true, there's other times where the guy just wanted to do a spot check and have a look at the bike, & others where one of us has crashed & they were fine.
