  1. Good to know estate's are finally getting recognition. They are rarer than people think as they were loved, used and abused.
  2. Hi Des, Pleased to meet a fellow Mk1 Estate owner. Had mine for 4 years now and it gets loads of attention at shows.
  3. πŸ‘πŸ†
  4. Hi everyone, I have a 1600GT engine mated to mk2 escort 1600 sport gearbox. I changed the diff to a 3.54 last November to give me a more relaxed drive. I've just started to get out in it and noticed the speedometer is well off. Now in theory and according to the Haynes manual all should be OK as can be seen from the extract attached. I do have 205/60 13's on the back but that shouldn't make a huge difference. My only thought is that the speedometer is out of a 1300gt and so could be miss calibrated. Any thoughts? Would a mk2 speedometer fit as a replacement? I know mk1 speedometer to 140mph are not easy to find.
  5. I agree it's worth just doing it. It will fly through as mine does.
  6. I have always had mine done every year. If the car is used a lot it's not a problem to miss a year, but if not then brake seals do dry out so the brake test is crucial. I had two rear cylinders blow on an MOT as the car had not been used much. I know its a snapshot once a year but considering what we spend on our Classics, the cost of an MOT is not that much and can you put a cost on your life? On another point, has anyone had an insurer not pay out when a car has been self MOT'd? From my reading of the exemption rules the car has to be completely stock. Thoughts?
  7. Great colour of roll bars πŸ˜€
  8. You mention North West but can you narrow it down a bit more. There are quite few shows in Yorkshire that are just over the boarder. No visa required πŸ˜€
  9. Great looking estate πŸ‘πŸ‘
  10. I like estates but there is limit! At least he got the colour coding of the stripe kit right. DMB must have done a special order whilst wearing rose tinted glasses πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.
  11. Is that a shadow or were the German public in love with Mk1 RS2000 decals on the side of their estate's? Can't fault them!
  12. Whilst I would like to turn back the clock and buy a P reg Mk2 for Β£290, I also remember the downsides. Those front drum brakes got the heart pumping πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ and could change the colour of your trousersπŸ˜€πŸ˜€
  13. Great to hear another estate is going to be on the road. Send some pics when you can! Thanks for the welcome from OSF.
  14. Well, there are always exceptions in life. πŸ€” And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  15. You're not wrong!
  16. Thank you all for the welcome. Car history is a bit patchy. It did start life over here but had a spell abroad. It has had a heart transplant though. Shell fully factory strengthened but was that for export or something else as it was right on the transition to Mk2 time. I know the Mk1 Mex estate that's in Yorkshire too and there was an RS2000 one as well. Other shells were made and two more finished. If we had an UK mk1 estate club though we would have a small member list. πŸ˜€ Maybe I should start one as part of OSF? We could get a line up at NEC next year! Lets gets some pics for this forum and see. Whatever its history, though I'm glad to keep another rare Mk1 on the road. Come and say hello if you get to shows in Yorkshire - you can't miss me πŸ‘ BTW - Orange is not just the best colour its the only one worth having πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
  17. It was great to meet up with the OSF team at NEC yesterday, thanks for the great welcome. I drive a 1974 Mk1 1600GT Estate in Vista Orange. There are very few estates still around so its often a magnet at shows. If any other members see me around, come over for a chat. Hope to be on your stand at some point next year.
