  3. I'm looking for a visual in car security locking device for the handbrake or steering wheel, has anyone on here got any recommendations to suit a Mk2 Escort? Thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks RP, will be sticking with the original return line set up as suggested 👍
  5. I would imagine that it was fitted due to the car being located in South Africa where the temperatures are slightly higher than the UK!
  6. Is there a definite requirement for a return line from the carb to the tank as fitted to mine, I have looked into a new replacement they only seem to have the feed line and the other blanked off?
  7. Not sure if these fit into this subject but I need a couple of windscreen wiper connectors for my Mk2 Escort, can anyone on here point me in the right direction?
  8. I am thinking of going down the manual choke route, oddly my car has a starter button fitted to the manual choke recess, not sure why as it starts on the ignition key. A brand new 32/36DGV will be purchased me thinks, just to rid any doubt regarding the existing carbs set up and condition. Does anyone on here know the capacity of the long range fuel tanks fitted to these cars?
  9. You are correct, the nearest E5 supply is my local Tesco’s, even the Texaco next door to it only sells E10, there are a couple of Shell petrol stations around 10 miles away but I do appreciate your advice regarding use of an octane booster. Regarding the carb, I will have to bite the bullet and go for a complete strip down and check the jets, I have priced up a Weber service kit and will purchase one imminently, I have seen a thread with jet sizes for Sport so will be able to compare, the only thing that might be a problem is the linkage from the throttle to the auto choke, when the engine eventually fired up the revs immediately hit 2k, I then have to fiddle with said linkage to bring the revs down. All the fun of owning and running a classic motor!
  10. Yes, it is a 32/36DGAV. A few more snaps, got a couple of unconnected wires that I could do with help identifying. The exhaust manifold is one that I don’t recognise and the system has a single box that is positioned forward of the axle!
  11. I wondered who would notice that, took them off to match them at the local motor factors.
  12. Bought this late last year, really happy with the condition of it, just a little bit of tidying needed. The tyres were shot and the original steel wheels needed refurbishing so changed them both. It’s a bit of a pain to start but I’m putting that down to the 32/36DGAV which I will probably replace if I can’t resolve the issue. Thanks to James (RP) for the info, it’s a February ‘81 car, it also came with the rear window Louvre which is in really good condition, not sure if I will refit it so might be available in the future. Nige.
  13. A Merry Christmas and a safe, prosperous and Happy New Year to all. Looking forward to meets and shows arranged for next year and meeting some of the members from the this fantastic forum.
  14. I used to own that Mexico, when I had to respray the engine bay, I got the colour matched and the closest match came out as Volkswagen orange, it was always much brighter than other vista orange Escorts when it was parked next to them!
  15. I agree, my job requires me to use hire cars and I hate them, had a Kia Sportage recently that kept telling me what I was doing, put the wipers on so the rev counter would disappear and in it's place a message that I had 'put the wipers on' etc, etc., no handbrake either! Last car was a small Peugeot (can't even be bothered to learn what model it was), like other cars, the rev counter was on the wrong side and it operated anti-clockwise. Like you, the more simple the better, my 65 Focus ST is just at my limit of technology, I only need what is required for me to be in control, none of this automatic stuff! Rant over, glad I got an older car to play with, details to follow 😉
  16. Second that, always worked for me and at a good price 👍
  17. Sorry, can't help with the sun-strip but I'm old enough to remember when Radio 1 changed from 275/285 MW to FM, we had little diamond shaped stickers to put on our wireless (that's a radio to you youngsters) sets to accurately mark the new frequencies. Seeing the sun-strip and logos takes me back to the Radio 1 roadshows, bits and pieces, smiley miley, etc.
  18. I took a photo of a 7" Superlite with a Yokohama 185/60 x 13 at a car show (seem to have deleted or lost the photo) that was fitted to a Sierra, from the side the tyre looked like a balloon, a much higher profile that the '60' would suggest which makes me wonder if fitting a 175 would have stretched it more. I've seen a Mk2 Escort with 175/60 x 13 Toyo (possibly Proxes CP1) on 7" Superlites and it looks spot on. Maybe a section dedicated to photos of wheel/tyre (make, width ET, etc) combination might be useful as it's a question that seems to crop up quite often!
  19. Evening all, just wondering what type of radio/cassette/CD/Bluetooth stereos that the good people on this forum have fitted to their classic cars, retro (if still available), modern or retro looking with modern internals, would appreciate a photo or two and the technicalities of fitting modern. On a side note, tried looking for a nice set of Mk2 Escort mud flaps like the Ford RS ones but they seem to be hard to find, anyone have a suggestion. Thanks in advance Nige
  20. I’m definitely up for the tour, there are enough local static car shows throughout the season to keep me happy with a good variety of makes and models, It takes me nearly 2 hours just to travel out of Cornwall sometimes so the closer the better for me!
  21. I will be up for it as it’s probably the nearest to where I live!
  22. Fiat 130 maybe!
  23. Would be good to see a photo or two of the wheels once fitted 👍
  24. That will be my 'go to' supplier with the same wheel tyre combination. Out of interest, if you don't mind me asking, how much is the package priced at?
