Another SA 1600 Sport!

Unfortunately mine is playing up at the moment, can't get it to fire up, it was running and then just stopped as if the ignition had been turned off, I'm confused by the wiring around the coil, it has a condenser attached to the coil mounting bracket that is wired in to the negative side of the coil which runs to the distributer so not sure if the set up is to factory standard or modified. I will attempt to get it running (might be a carb issue) and then take some readings. -

My mates dad owned an orange 2.5PI back in the 70’s, you could fit 6 kids in the back before the seat belt law spoiled the fun 😁
-
Nice photos, I went to a show recently here in Cornwall, traction engines and tractors galore, took too many photos to upload! Really like the Suzuki 2 strokes, had a GT125 with very loud expansion chambers fitted much to the annoyance of my neighbours 😁
-
I was recently chatting to a chap who owns the orange with black decals Mk1 RS2000 at a local show, the restoration was carried out by them to an excellent standard.

It was a Woolworth’s special!

My first board was a wooden thing with black roller skate wheels, how we enjoyed injuring ourselves and laughing at each other with blood pouring from our knees and elbows, the belly buster or coffin position was our favourite 😁
-
If like me you grew up in the 70’s and were hooked on the latest craze of skateboarding, here is my Marco Polo Major, purchased for me by my gran for £25 in 1978, my dad was fuming at the money spent but I was a very happy 13 year old. Clock the length, 2ft, very short in comparison to the modern day boards!

My boys...

Nice looking motors you have there, the GLS must be quite a rare beast, I don’t remember too many of them on the roads when I was a youngster! -
Well done on winning the award, how long before our classics become ‘vintage’ and the newer cars become classics? 😁
-
Some nice motors there and a great trip down memory lane 👍

The GXL and GT were the best looking Mk3’s, lovely motor 👍

Was this car a 1300e with a 3 litre v6, if so I remember talking to the owner of it in the Jet petrol station in Widley many many years ago?
-
Indeed it was a blocked idle jet, thanks Big G and others for suggestions 👍

Thanks for the responses, the spark plugs are quite new but cheap enough to replace as are the fuel filters, I have one fitted at the tank outlet and another before the carb, I will have a look at the jets and see if there is any verdebrie in them. With regards to the gearstick rattling issue, it is a quick shift that has been fitted but the previous owner so unless I can source a standard stick cheaply enough, I will have to put up with the irritation for now, if only we could go back in time and fill our garages and sheds with those hard to get spares from the scrap yards!

Decided to treat the Sport to a new gearbox mount as the gearstick rattles annoyingly at higher revs, I previously changed the plastic saddle and fitted new engine mounts but the issue was there so purchased a new gearbox mount from Burton Power and fitted it, there was a slight difference in that it located the gearbox a bit further up to the tunnel but there was still clearance. So with that done I took it out for a spin hoping that the rattle was resolved, the car ran terribly, stalling when I took my foot off the accelerator and sounding like it was misfiring when running, I have looked at the ignition system and fuelling, both seem normal apart from the colour of the plugs, can anyone interpret the look of them? Can’t get my head around this issue and running out of patience 😡

The VIN plates on my SA Sport are 88 x 44mm.

The brown looks fine to me, my Sport has a brown interior which looks great too. Wonder how many Huntsman estates are left! -

Very nice, an Escort that I have always liked and must be a rarity along with the Linnet model these days 👍 -
It’s a horrible feeling but as the wife keeps telling me “you didn’t get hurt and the car is fixable”
-
The car is kept in a barn which has a sloping drive leading up to it, yesterday I decided to get it out into the fresh air and natural light for a bit of a spring clean, in 1st gear slowly edged out straight onto a patch of frozen water, front wheels locked up and instead of turning to the left to follow the drive down it went straight on into a solid Cornish stone wall on the right! I have spoken to the insurance company and await their decision, fingers crossed that it will be covered and repaired 🤞
-
I won’t go into the details but not a very happy person at the moment, you know when you try to do everything right but thing’s like this happen!
-
I always refer to my car as 'he' and as I have done with all of my cars, I have never seen the feminine side of them, on the other hand, my wife as always referred to her cars as 'she'. In fact our cars have names based on their number plates except my Kubota tractor, his name is Gerald!

Thanks for the link, I can’t believe that price! I managed to remove the corrosion and clean the fitting up to a satisfactory standard, the aluminium under the corrosion was pretty sound so saved a few pounds there 👍
