  1. They are the same as the 2.8 ones with regard to strength, strangely I think the 2.0 ones had thinner shafts. Atlas axles are strong so it should cope if in good condition.
  2. I have a feeling that underneath the black yours would be stainless steel. I have a a feeling the early mk2 type were anyway, when I repainted mine I stripped them back and they were shiny underneath.
  3. Carbs may not need much pressure but if you up the horsepower you need more quantity of fuel. My old V6 couldn`t hold full power on the rolling road for more than 2 seconds with the standard mechanical pump. Electric fuel pump sorted it out.
  4. Bike carbs would be great but the essex manifold doesn`t lend itself to modification.
  5. Got some Waxoyl and the kit that goes with it £12, a new 2kg fire extinguisher £10, New ford propshaft centre mount (£1 ) and a few other bits. Always a great morning out.
  6. I have gone for a holley 390 set up. They are capable of fuelling to over 200bhp if the engine spec allows but are cheaper to buy, set up and run than a set of triple webbers. If money were no object though I would have the webbers.
  7. To be fair it could be a dodgy earth or two and a blown fuse and that would solve most of the problems in the list. WRT the camber issue, this is just related to the ride height as there is no way of adjusting this with standard track control arms. Tracking it will mke no difference to the camber but will need to be done again if you lower it.
  8. Bearing in mind that Capris used to race with drums even over long distances I think it must be possible to get away with larger drums and good linings. You could fit a bias valve to reduce preesure to the rears OR fit rear cylinders with a larger bore to reduce the rear effort that way perhaps.
  9. It is still turning but not under load. If it goes quiet it points to the Crown and pinion wheel. If it stayed noisy it would more likely be bearings.
  10. 7x13 4 spoke revos with 205 60 Firestones. Will look better once the car is sitting lower, needs to settle before I can tweek it.
  11. The 2.8 spaced caliper pins and shims are available from CCI. I would think they are the same length as the Granada ones. I couldn`t get them elsewhere. Everyone tried to give me the shorter pins that were for non spaced discs, saying they would fit, but they don`t.
  12. Thanks for the ideas and kind offers. I`ll bear them in mind, Cheers Steve. The paint I have is indeed 2 pack so needs a hardener mixed with it. Are you saying I could get it put in an aerosol with a hardener andit would keep? I thought you had to use it within a few hours of mixing?
  13. My Halfords said they could only match it if I knew what car it was from. I said it is just a generic Jet black ready mixed paint and I showed them the tin. They just shrugged and said they couldn`t help.
  14. Thanks for the replies. I am tempted to go with Tony`s suggestion, makes sense really. Might be useful in the future if ever I need to touch up. Do`n know much about that though so I will look into whats available. MG Ford, I can`t get it put in an aerosol as it would need the hardener added and that would set in the can. My local paint supplier (Brown Bros) weren`t able / interested in matching the paint from the tin.
  15. How much do you think a bodyshop would charge me to paint a petrol flap? I have rubbed it down cleaned and primed it, it just needs the top coat. I have the exact paint but as it is a 2K acrylic I can`t spray it myself. I would just get an aerosol made up but although I have the paint I can`t get it matched as it is just called ready mixed Jet Black, and apparently one jet black is different to another. The only reason I am having to redo it (incase your wondering) is that the people that painted my car decided that tetrasyl textured underseal would be the best thing to pain the inside of the petrol flap with. (not a great idea when you consider you can use petrol to remove underseal.) So I removed the flap, cleaned it up but the fact it also had a dent in and I managed to chip the paint on the edge no means I want it painted.
  16. Look at the bright side, you will be getting mags until March 2010.
  17. No its still there! I just photoshopped it out
  18. Here is my "A" frame set up. The springs are decambered by 2" which does away with the need for blocks. So the frame sits nice and level. Fully poly bushed with braided brake hoses and Spax adjustable shocks and a 2.8 (14mm thick) rear roll bar Oh and retro Firestone 205 60 balloons Whats wrong with capri Power? did they upset you somehow? I have found it geenerally friendly enough. Lots of good info too.
  19. I thought of that but I don`t have any. Mind you I am going to borrow a set tonight Cheers anyway.
  20. Anyone know how much an Atlas axle case would weigh? I need to get a quote to post one.
  21. Cheers guys, I`ll swap it tomorrow.
  22. Thanks for the reply But I just wanted to reuse the standard one. While welding or brazing a tube ob might be an idea if all else fails I just want to keep it simple.
  23. How do I remove the breather on at Atlas axle? I have just got hold of an LSD axle but it is missing the breather, so I need to nick it off my other one. I am guessing it will just prize out but as I need to reuse it any tips to avoid damage would be appreciated. Anyone know if they are available new still?
  24. Bear in mind that most mk1 axles are 2" narrower than the later capri ones.
  25. I like that alot, I can picture it with a "S" front spoiler and MK2 sports stripes in Gold.
