Went to Brafield at the weekend primarily to see the Classic Hot Rods.... but to my total shock I loved the bangers, there was a guy in a MkII Granada, number 998 and he was on it all day.... every race he was there, full on. Far more exciting than the Classic Hot Rods, which didnt 'hot' up until the last race of the day. I think there are some 'unscrupulous' banger boys who have been known to take cars specifically for racing rather than sourcing them from breakers etc because lets face it, when did you last see a MkII Granada or whatever in the local rag for £50...... and not many yards have these cars anymore either. But I think after Monday I'm converted..

Here's some pics from the pits for ya all ! -
I cant believe you know there is probably 40bhp lurking in that old jalopy of yours that could be extracted without too much effort or cash and you havent got on it.. Crikey if I knew there was another 10bhp in mine that could be had for a couple of hours on the rollers I'd be on it like a fat lass on a cream cake....
-
Well if you are going to carry on with that unmapped Megasquirt you're only making 110bhp anyway so nothing to worry about Joking aside, a standard 2.0 Zetec doesnt make huge amounts of torque so its unlikely to lunch your box. Kevin at Miltons used to run standard 2000E's in his Hot Rod and as long as you dont nick a gear as you are changing you will be fine.

Go Jay !! I cant believe this post has been up nearly 6 hours and one response.. Call yourself old skoolers... Where else are you going to get a chance to see Anglias and MkI Escorts wheel arch to wheel arch round a quarter mile oval...... -
Guys Just looked on the website http://www.incarace.co.uk/northampton.html and in the Fixtures Section it shows there are Classic Hot Rods on the bill.... So if anyone fancies watching some Retro short oval stuff this could be the place to go... Anglias & MkI Escorts on the bill amongst others Brafield is easy to get to from J15 of the M1

DCOE Throttle Linkages - whats the best
105Speed replied to cortinaman's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
The Weber ones work really well, very nicely made, had one on my single side draught that was on my Pre-Crossflow and Retro Ford made a braket up so we could use it on my D'ellortos on the Zetec. Very happy with it. -
Anyone on here running mappable ignition?
105Speed replied to capri_turbo's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Run an Ignition Only Omex on my Zetec, runs very nicely. Really fancy getting into Megajolt though on a pre-crossflow perhaps. -
Its not quite as easy as that guys. The springs are far too big to go in the Anglia strut towers so you would have to grind off the the MkII Cortina spring pans and graft on Anglia ones, OR make up a collar to sit in the MkII Cortina spring pan to take the Anglia coil spring. Then you have the issue of the top mount, you will need to make a collar to take the cortina insert out to the same size as the Anglia one so it sits in the top mount properly. The other problem you will have, is track control arms, the cast MkII Cortina arms are the perfect length... but very hard to find and blimmin expensive when you do. You CANNOT use the pressed steel arms. The other thing is the steering arms, if you fit the legs as they are, then your Anglia will have the turning circle of a MkII Cortina, the lock to lock will be poorer than the original Anglia and the steering will be slow, which is why Milton shorten the cortina ones and modify them to get the speed and the lock to lock back into the steering. Best thing to do is use them as donors for a pair of the Milton legs and all these troubles will go away.

Deffo not Anglia with that measurement and handbrake mechanism.

Only caught the tail end of the meet as we got there about 8:45.. What is it with you guys and leaving meets ? It was all over by 9:30, was there something on the telly ? Are you all on police curfews ? Or not allowed out without a note from your mums ? I've noticed this trend over the last year or so of going to OSF meets... people turn up for about an hour or so and then go.. I remember the first Boxhill I went to, got there about 12:00 and there were loads of people going and last night was the same, loads of people leaving by about 9:00 Just an observation really...
-
I cant wait either Jim... the money I'm getting off you is paying for my missus's tea at the Ashford meet.. so you best turn up mate....
-
I think the son is fine to deal with, its just the old man can be a bit of a funny bugger... but them most of the old codgers that run breakers can be funny....
-
Guys... before you go splashing huge wads of cash round, try some decent pads... I was amazed at how good the Ferrodo DS2500's were..... but then at £70 a set they blimmin should be. But you would be amazed at the difference a pad can make, even things like EBC Greenstuff can make a difference over things like PowerTrain and other 'cheaper' makes you get from Motor factors these days. I've just got a standard set of 2.8i vents, the extra cross drilling etc only makes a difference if you are on track really, it just helps get the heat away quicker, but unless you are doing a mad run across Milton Keynes most brake set ups have time to cool before you next apply them anyway, so normal vents will be fine.

Got a full history with my Anglia from about 1968 including a couple of interesting little gems, one of which is a set of directions from the AA which are just like a modern AutoRoute printout but this is from the 60's taking the car from the Isle of Wight to Cranfield Airfield, which is about 7 miles from where the car is now. And with my van, I have a diary kept by the owner of journeys taken, miles covered, petrol used etc.... Love all this old stuff... And with my Cossie I've got a folder so big you couldnt jump over it.

I would like to think my Cortina Savage could fool Graham Norton....
-
To be honest on a Capri, I'd just go with standard 2.8i stuff, just with really decent pads like the Ferrodo DS2500's Got them in my Anglia and it hauls up just fine, ok the Anglia is a lighter car than a Capri. But standard 2.8i stuff works ok... I think what I am trying to say is you could spend a load of money and not really get a lot of gain. Nip down to the Volvo breaker just by the St Neots turn and get yourself a set of 4 pots of a 240. You have to elongate the mounting holes ever so slightly... but its cheap and in the spirit of this forum

RF Morley's Anglia engine (the secret revealed)
105Speed replied to Daggle's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Blimey... and I think 4500rpm at 80 mph in 5th is tedious.. I think 13000 rpm will soon get on ones wick.... unless you have loads and loads of sound proofing. Track weapon... YES Shows ? Go on a trailer -
MkII Mexico steels are worthless.. common as muck...
-
MkI Mexico Steels are Uber Cool... and Uber rare especially with the hub caps on... give better venting to the brakes than Lotus steels.. Had a set on my Anglia van that I got off Simon Woolley and now they are sitting in the shed waiting for the next project. Give the same look as a lotus steel but much much rarer. So if you want a set you gotta pay the money.. Perhaps a little ott.. but not outrageous.
-
This Anglia is sporting BRM wheels, most likely off a Lotus Cortina As is this one And this one has the twink to match

You clearly know fook all and statements like this could result in you coming to physical harm. I will tell you for free if you slagged any of my products and made incorrect unfounded statements like that I would not be responsible for my actions. You might think its funny to wind people up Gaz and I havent got a problem with that at all... but telling lies about people products that can directly affect their lively hood is NOT funny. You have been warned.
-
You aint looked hard enough then... Retro Ford do a Wet Sump ! also available through Burtons... Gaz & Gary... get with the program.. the Duratec world is fast moving and getting cheaper and easier as months go by. But please.. stop giving people the impression you have to dry sump... YOU DONT
