I am 99.9% convinced this is an urban myth A MkI Escort Axle is 48" Anglia saloon is 43" BUT An Anglia Van axle is 46" I suspect that the original person to do this did it with an Anglia van axle not knowing there is a difference between van and saloon. The van axle would give you the 1" either side to get wider wheels on and the spring saddles would hardly need moving at all. Whereas with a saloon axle you've got 2.5" each side to find and the spring saddles need moving and guys I've spoken to so far have had to use real big spacers to sort out the fact the wheels are touching the leaf springs. Think carefully about this one before you start !

I can only liken Gaz to a Jehovahs Witness... no matter what anyone says, no matter how abusive, he just smiles and says... 'Can I interest you in a Pinto..... the pinto loves you... we are all the pintos children and the Great Pinto sent his son 16v Pinto to save us all so one day a duratec may live... praise be the pinto.... all smile to the quarter mile' Well Gaz.... even if we all think you are a complete front bum... jesus loves you....

Just done a DVLA search on that plate... Not known to DVLA
-
Ditto.... Its not far from Cambridge to Northampton.

Who are these Traders Gaz... ??? the only two people on this thread with businesses are myself and retro-Gary... Neither of us sell Zetec or Duratec conversions... we have no financial gain from this advice and are only in a position to give the advice because this is what we do for a living. I do know my Anglias and I know what works well in them and what doesnt... and I put my OWN money, not my businesses money, into my Anglia and went for the Zetec. In this respect I am the same as any other enthusiast on this forum, I've weighed up the options and bought what I feel is the best for me... and I dont regret it one bit. And like I said earlier I've had Cossies for the last 7 years and love them to bits... but didnt want one in my Anglia.
-
Ok mate... I'll see him at the lights... because I have a 180bhp Zetec in my Anglia. And its fully trimmed and its got glass all round and a steel boot and bonnet and doors and the tyres are filled with air not helium.... But if I beat his time then you will be whining about my 185mm tyres and my diff and my gearbox and then oh well... you've got all that Milton suspension on your car.... blah blah blah blah blah.

Lovely engine.... love mine to bits... stick it in.. and go for it mate !
-
Perhaps you're right Gary... Time to give it a rest... Mk1Gaz and his mobile goal posts will ensure that in Gazicstan at least.. Pinto is King...
-
But Gary I thought Gaz was a street racer living his live 1/4 mile at a time.... on the street anything goes... you cant suddenly start bleating at the lights that someone has taken their back seat out... This is drag racing not a single make formula

Most aftermarket kits make use of the Sierra Cosworth (2wd ONLY) or Granada calipers and handbrake cable. Readily available and MOT friendly Last thing you want, with this computerised MOT system is a failure for Handbrake as every year after that it will be flagged up so even if you take the car to different stations they will know there has been an issue with the handbrake and check it. This computerised MOT'ing is like a Tattoo, its on the vehicle for ever... Bear in mind though a hydraulic handbrake is 'legal' on a pre 1968 car

Perhaps this would make for an excellent feature in Retro Ford magazine.. A proper Old School vs New School thrash at Brunters. Gaz find 10 Pinto Luvvas and the rest of us 16v boys will find some New School and settle it there and then, once and for all. 0-60, 1/4 mile, 0-100 and top speed But Specs have to be evenly matched to prove your theories. So a 180bhp Zetec against a 180bhp Pintosaurus etc etc
-
Aaaaaah Happy Days.... The improvements that have been made are not in proportion to the ever increasing popularity of the events and what the foreign top fuel boys must think when they come over here I dont know.. But perhaps thats what adds to the attraction of the place... that fact its almost as it was back in the day.

In Gazicstan... like in France we are lovin the pinto engine very much...... The bores on my 2.1 pinto are tight like mans anus....
-
C'mon guys.. that old shed has been up there probably since the 60's... its about time Santa Pod starting improving its facilities, expecially after charging £10 a time on the gate. I remember when I took that picture in Wayne Avatar the gents toilets at the pod was just a series of walls so people couldnt see you standing pissin in a hole in the ground..... Lets hope they replace it with something decent for people to stand in.. something with sides perhaps.

I've got 4451 UR for sale at £450 Its on retention so its nice a quick to do

Stuford You have a PM mate

You won't be passin me next time matey Well my Anglias 180bhp and its lighter.... so best put the lippy on in the fire up lane....

I used to be an Autosol man until I tried the Meguires Metal Polish... that brings chrome up a treat !! And it smells nice too. If its real rusty and oxidised then Autosol it first but then go over it with the meguires.. You can get it from Halfrauds.
-
Gary... he has got the blinkers off... the only problem is, Gazicstan is 5 miles off the coast of Reality so he cant see that the rest of the world has moved on and there are other alternatives to the good old Pintosaurus......
-
Do you really need all that power Jo ? I passed you on the M1 doing 55mph a few weeks back Excellent result though ! Well done Col ! Cant wait to see you strippin it !!
-
Central Blast Cleaning built a very nice Zetec powered Capri that was in a recent Retro Ford magazine. I believe that was using the ST170 engine too... which is obviously a nice amount of power to start with, but only 20bhp or so over a 2.8i so perhaps a mildly tuned cologne is the way to go. Alternatively V8 it ! No need for after market management so money saved there and a V8 Capri is a lot of car for not a lot of money... plus the sound.... mmmmmm
-
I'd be up for some of that Perhaps that could be 'The Retro Ford Tour'

Gaz Daves 2.3 Duratec, Mountunes 280bhp spec made 256bhp on its first run and set up out of the box. Since then there has been development in the exhaust manifold which will see more power released so when it goes to be mapped again with the new manifold on we'll see how close to the 280bhp he gets. Bet it wont be far away. And how much would it cost to build a 280bhp Pinto I wonder ? You quote all these people who are running big power and quick times but I bet their engines werent cheap. This is almost like me saying Toby Kents Pre-Crossflow is 200bhp and a he runs low 13's therefore the Pre-Crossflow is better than the Crossflow motors and Zetecs etc etc etc Well a Jet Car beats a Pinto every time.....
