C'mon Gary... dont give up now... we could actually beat him into submission...

Here's something to ponder Twink... I love Cosworths, I've had them all, 4x4 Sapphire, 2 Escort Cosworths, an RS500, 2 Three Doors..... and I think I will have them for many years to come because there is no bigger buzz than blowing the doors of Porches and the like with an old Sierra. But I've got a Zetec in my Anglia... and have NO desire whatsoever to put a YB in the car at all.... Because I know, 350bhp in a Sierra is a right handful and in the wet its lethal, its not fun, its just dangerous. If you want the car as a fast road car and a track car there is no point in having a car with an engine that over powers the chassis because you cant concentrate on just driving the car because you are always worried when is it going to bite you.

As for life in Pintos... of course there is life in Pintos.. for godsake people are still building quick Pre-Crossflows which have a good 6 years on the old Pintosaurus. What gets everyones goat is the fact that you think there is nothing else in the world other than the Pinto and that they are the greatest engine ever produced and the only engine that could possibly be fitted to an Escort. All everyone else is saying is.... YOU'RE WRONG !!

Gaz... Dave was on street tyres too
-
Got stuff all over the house... I do try and keep the lounge clear... but things still mount up, I like to keep a Shorrock Supercharger by the door, in case we need to hold it open for any reason... and the missus uses a pair of Tecalemit Jackson Throttle Bodies as a boot stand.... First time Pipster came round he said.... 'I take it you live on your own then !'

2.3 is the way to go if you've got a huge Pinto Building budget.. But if you're like most of us then just get a 2.0 out of a mondeo, stick some cams in it, some direct to head roller barrels and you should see just over 200bhp Nice, easy and cost effective reliable, light modern engine

I thought the island was 5 miles off the coast of Gazicstan
-
I didnt invent it .. it was coined on another thread ... Like 'Pintosaurus' although I will stake my claim to 'from the Jurrasic Car Park'
-
I have to say I am disappointed, a Gaz and his 'By the Power of Pinto' post on Turbosport got to over 40 pages in no time... Oh and Gaz, Dave was also on road tyres and can you imagine how tight a freshly built engine is, now its run in and he's made a few adjustments to his exhaust manifold then he should be making his mark this season at the Pod

Gazicstan...

Well... since the 80's anyway Wayne But then this was probably before half this lot were even born

Dave Colledges Estate car, which is a 2.0 on 45's on Dunnell 2d ignition runs mid 14's Jon Rhodes ST170 powered Anglia runs mid 14's Gaz... get off the internet, get out of Sarf Laandan and get your boat anchor to the Pod and put your money where your mouth is.... Oh and Daves Mountune Duratec runs 13.01 That was an engine that had done ZERO miles, just dyno time to run it in, in a MkII Escort with a Capri 2.8i Type 9, no fancy gearset, a welded diff and full trim. XE's are just sooo last century.... Morley didnt set any worlds on fire with his on Throttle Bodies...

They've built a reputation in rallying for being a big power engine and SBD who've been working on these motors for years can get 280bhp out of them. BUT Out the box.. or should i say out of the rotten Astra GTE they are only 150bhp... now a stock 2.0 Zetec on Carbs is 160-165bhp all day long, simple cams and a bit of head work will see 180 easily. A low mileage ST170 engine (£600 from a breakers) with a £95 vernier pulley on the exhaust cam will see 180bhp and its got all the uprated bits in it anyway. XE was the way in rallying.. but we're not rallying and all the rally boys are ditching the XE in favour of the Duratec anyway, lighter, shorter and already making stonking power. Simple Cams & Direct To Head Roller Barrells will see over 200bhp The myth that putting one in an Escort is expensive is now dispelled as Dave at Retro Ford has sorted a wet sump out as well as mounts and a water rail, alternator kit, radiator, bellhousing etc. As for Cossie motors in Classic Fords, everyone makes the same mistake. They treat their classic ford like it was a sierra... and go for a big turbo. The trick is to go for either a roller bearing GT 350 type turbo or if you aint got that sort of money, go for a small turbo Escort Cosworth Turbo or a T25 like they used on the Rouse 302R & 304R Cossies. That way, you get no lag, you are on boost almost as soon as you are moving, you dont get that ditch finding kick in the back you get with a T34 or a T4 and you'll blow Gaz and his Pintosaurus right back into the Jurrasic Car Park... Lets face it, unless you are going for some sort of top speed record who wants to be slow as fook at 30mph just so you can do 150mph ? Trust me I know these thing... as I've got a Cossie with a T34 on it and I had an RS500 with a monstrous T4 on it.

Out of interest what was the remaining 4k being spent on ? That seems a big figure to fit an engine that cost you a grand.
-
There was a couple of Anglias back in the day with them in, one known as the 'Janglia' sorry I havent got any pics though..
-
Heated front screen and a big coat. Depends on what engine you are fitting, things like Zetecs & Duratecs can go in without messing with the bulkhead so you can keep the heater. What engine is that Stu ?

Be about £130 delivered to your door.

The bit where you said it was 'useless to most people.' Most people I know who have Alpha kits have found them to be excellent, they make good power and very reliable out the box. So to say they are useless to most people is incorrect. You are slating a product you have no experience of, just what you've read on forums which is the modern day equivilant of what you heard down the pub. If you get something out the box, you plug it in and the car drives lovely and you are happy, what more can you say ? People dont shout about them because they just work, they do what the person expected it to do.

'My mate told me Escort Suspension just bolts straight onto an Anglia' 'Classic Struts.. thats what you need to get disk brakes on your Anglia' 'I had a 1500GT in there out of a Cortina, with the GT gearbox and it was a fly machine used to do 120 no bother....' The irony is the 1500GT box is the same as the standard 1200 Anglia And when I had my RS500 the amount of times I heard... 'Yeah they are called the RS500 because they are 500 brake mate'

When you say spares what are you talking about ? Because if you had an ecu from any of the other manufacturers that was more than a few years old I'm sure you would struggle to get bits for them too. What knarks people about the Weber stuff is the software is locked so they cant get into it and everyone thinks they are a mapper and they want to get in to tweak the map. The reality of the siutation is, if its set up properly in the first place then there is no need to tweak the map and most people wouldnt know really what they were doing once they were into the software anyway.
-
Thats pub talk if ever I heard it. The weber base maps are excellent as weber spend a lot of time developing their maps so the units are plug and play, ok if your motors cammed up or had head work then the map will need to be tweaked but I know several people who've bought a kit mail order, plugged it in and the cars fired up straight away and driven lovely. You are correct, only approved dealers have the software to be able to map the car, but they are all dealers who've been trained to use the software and get the best out of it. Lets face it, 1 hour on the rollers to tweak an already very good map in the hands of someone who knows the kit inside out is better value that 2 hours on the rollers with a kit the tuner doesnt know because he's a DTA man and you've taken him an OMEX or whatever. This can be off putting if you already have a preferred tuner.. but if you have, then buy what they recommend. But dont be put off by the rumours you hear about the weber stuff its very good quality kit, Colin Macrae had it in his MkII..... so theres a recommendation for you. As for MegaJolt, excellent value for money, but be warned there arent many tuners who will touch it. I know Northampton Motorsport have done a few Megasquirt set ups now and have seen some very god results but they are one of the few that will have a go with these DIY ECU's

I do know the chap who owned it when that picture was taken and he's sold it to a mate of his and has first dibs on it when it comes up for sale again. I've just spoken to Guy and the engine has gone. But he's a man that's likely to turn up another so its worth while getting in touch with him.
-
Unless the car is something very special to you, purely from a cost basis, it could be better starting with a good shell and just having it painted. You could go somewhere like Central Blast Cleaning who would do an excellent job but they will charge and after they've done their bit you've then got to start putting it back together. If you have a look at this post on the 105Speed forum you can see Morley has had his Anglia blasted by Central Blast cleaning but there is also reference to the company that was used in the Camper Van Crisis series up in the midlands. Hopefully that will help. http://105speed.hyperboards.com/index.p ... ic_id=2992

That engine was for sale and the person who had it is Guy Smith from Guy Smith Motorsport. I believe V8Ian has already forwarded his contact details to you. It was on e-bay a couple of times too.. but Guy got messed. He may still have it, you never know. Here's one in an Anglia that makes a darn site more than 140bhp... Mmmmm moist like a sponge cake !
