stu Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 me rs is runing a standerd rad with a electric fan but the old girl stillruns a bit warm. at boxhill wkend a few spoted it & all advised me 2 fit a biger rad. what is the usal upgrade what do i fit i noticed alot of escorts r running rs1600 style rads with the large water chamber at the top. any ideas?
bomber1 Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 thought the rs rad was as big as u could go. what about an ally rad? if ur selling the rs rad let me know could be intrested are sure its not a nackerd stat or crapy water ? my old saph got hot n botherd on a run to sarfend next day dropped the water flushed the system through n refilled with fresh antifreeze/water. never had an ounce of trouble after that
marky4 Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 i had my rad recored put a performace core in but still looks standard only cost £117.50 and they also brazed on some brackets for the fan and repainted it
tim Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 if u want to keep it look orginal under there then get a big headed rad off somthing like a transit
Noodles Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Iv gone though this in my head so many times, in the end I asked a capri builder at tickovers in bexley heath, he says that a standard rad should be better than the option of a capri rad cos capri ones are single core were as mk2s are twin, how true this is I do not know?
ratman Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Got this big hedder rad on the bay at the mo needs a recore but a good solid base for what you need http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1
mk1mexico Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I would be looking elsewhere first matey, a friend of mine runs a 1.3 radiator on a tight, newly built, tuned 2.0 pinto with no worries

You could try going to school..... Fkin text speak annoys the living hell out of me. It's done by illiterate fucktards in baseball caps driving shitter RS Turbos. If you're running stupid advance, you could try retarding it a bit. Also the engine will run hot if the carbs aren't set right and it's leaning out.
john_3.0s Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 The only diff with the tranny big header rad is that there is not a hole in the side for the temp sensor. I got one of ebay for a tenner last week (for a transit). If you are desperate you can have it tripple cored, my mk1 rs2000 had this done and even with out the fan it never got too hot. Are you sure the over heating prob isnt due to the rad being half blocked? maybe try a reverse flush with a garden hose
Admin Vista Posted April 17, 2007 Admin Report Posted April 17, 2007 My vote is for the triple core too, works a treat on mine Get this one cheap (it's knackered) and get a new core into it, sorted http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mk1-2-escort-big- ... dZViewItem
johnboy Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 I would be looking elsewhere first matey, a friend of mine runs a 1.3 radiator on a tight, newly built, tuned 2.0 pinto with no worries Agreed. A sweet running pinto should not give a Rs rad any problems if everything is in good order. I ran my pinto with a 1.3 rad with no problems. Is the timing/ mixture good, fins in the rad clear, good quality antifreeze in the system. Check the basics first.

105Speed Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 We uprate rads all the time Stu, normally Anglia ones, but we can do anything, we've done a couple for Pipster for his Escort and his Capri, so if you can get a donor rad we can put a double core in it, most Escort or Capri rads cant take a triple core. But we do use a Low Height Core which is very efficient. Here's a normal recored Cortina Rad ( We did NOT do this one) Here's one we did for Simon Woolley's MkII Cortina. And we normally put a Fan Switch Boss in the bottom tank to control an electric fan.
