from two council bods while i was at work today

a lady from the noise pollution depatrment and a guy from planning enforcement department!

they have had a complaint about me working on my cars! apparantly i am running a business so the planning guy was investigating wheteher i should have applied for, or needed planning for change of use from residential to business and the noise lady was there because of, well noise

i called them both this afternoon and i must say they were both extremly helpful, they couldnt tell me who complained but i told them i had a fair idea it is a doris in the next road that backs onto my back garden and that she is just being vindictive because i wouldnt sell her part of my garden for £700 and i also refused to cut down the only tree i have in my garden that stops her from being nosy

they actuaaly thought the same as me especially as it was obvious to them i was just doing it as a hobby and not a business. he even said if i wanted to apply to be a business it would get passed straight away as i only had the 2 cars on the drive

i asked the noise lady if there had been any complaints of noise against the building site opposite me as they make a hell of a lot more noise than me for 6 days a week compared to my 2 days, and also if they had complained about my neighbour who is often in his workshop on his lathe til late at night, funnily enough they hadnt  i now have to keep a diary of when i work on the cars and the tools i will be using to compare it to the one the complainent is keeping to see if i am causing a nuisance

i never start with power tools before 10.30am during the week or 11am on a sunday and im always done by 6 in the evening as i consider this fair.

what do you guys think? sorry for the long read

Sounds pretty fair to me. I was all paranoid about using the angle grinder at midday on monday because of the noise. Then I decided my lazy neighbours should get up!!!

If you apply to be a business would it make any difference to you? in terms of rates and council tax? Might be worth doing just to annoy your local friendly neighbours a bit more

Silly doris. Still, at least the council guys are on your side, and at the end of the day that a big help.

As long as you keep being considerate i should think you'll be fine. :D

i would have to pay business rates and they aint cheap

and also it isnt a business so wouldnt be much point.

it was andygfc who spoke to them when they visited as he is doing some decorating at the mo for me (highly recommended & reasonable rates) and he suggested we have an osf meet round my place and see what they say then

Sounds fair to me too. There are people out there who are unreasonable about the noise they make and the times they work on their cars, but it sounds to me like you've been more than considerate.

I was just thinking how much it would annoy the old whinger if she thought you were running a business and that any noise would be a permanent thing rather than just till you finished.

Oh well, OSF meet it is

Mate, your times of work are very reasonable. I do count myself lucky to have decent neighbours, after reading a few posts on here, it is looking like friendly neighbours are getting hard to find.

I am pretty much the same... if I know I will be making a racket, I will leave it to a half decent hour before starting. This sort of sh*te infuriates me... I hate people who back stab... if someone has a problem with me or what I do, I would like to be told to my face... "Man to Man" so to speak, and like wise. That is just the way I am. Is it any wonder why most people/neighbours are strangers now???

For instance, if you were my neighbour, I would be round saying "Hello there" and having a butchers at what you were up to, and also asking if you needed help. If more people were like that, everyone in the world would get along so much better... don't you think??? :D

my neighbours are great and regularly pop by for a cuppa and a chat to see how the cars are getting on! nobody has said anything to me about anyone considering me being a nuisance

revenge is sweet though  she asked a while ago if she could come over to paint the fence at some point to save lifting out the panels to do them and there are about ten of them that are at the bottom of the garden that border wiht hers, well she can bloody well lift them out and do them now!

she did used to have a tree surgeon to do the trees in her garden and he used to trim some of my tree so it didnt cause to much shade on her patio, well from now on he aint touching it and if he does i will report her as the tree has a preservation order on it as i live in a conservation area

best bit is she topld me she planted the tree about 30 years ago :lol:

Hhhhmmmmm... Chhhooooooonnnnnsssss to pee off an elderly neighbour.

I would start off with some Old Skool breakbeat, then into some early Jungle. This is to be followed up with some Trance, then Hard House with a bit of Drum & Bass. To finish, I would then stick on a medley of Happy Hardcore..... Oi Oi... Reach For The Lasers :lol::lol::lol::ykt:
