Ok, watched fast and furious on tv last night . I loved this film when it came out and not afraid to admit it :shock::lol:

Near the begining when the four cars are racing and Brian comes in last after blowing his engine Dom says he was 'granny shifting' and not' double de-clutching' like he should.

So here's my question do racers double clutch when racing or not? and if they do, why? surely that will slow them down when trying to get through the box :?

been bugging me all day this one :D

I just thought that was a thing people used to do on non synchromesh gearboxes, and theres no need on a synchromesh gearbox .

Wats double de-clutching?

Engaging the clutch once to match engine speed, then engaging it again to change gear.

AFAIK. :wink::ykt:

its a way of downshifting smoothly - when you press clutch in - put car into neutral - release clutch - then rev the engine to match the revs for a lower gear and depress clutch and put into gear.

i think thats the right explaination

Yeah I watched that too....and it shows a seen of Vin Diesel or van weasel :lol: changing gear and he doesn't double de-clutch anyway :roll: ...bloody rubbish film apart from a few doris and the charger :thumbsup:

debatable whether its worth it with modern gearboxes, it often makes for a smoother downshift as you're not using the momentum of the car through the gearbox to bring the engine revs up when the clutch is released.

I use it with boxes with worn syncromesh, heavy duty, or straight cut gears etc

the second one if you watch closely they boost upto 1.5 bar.......thats nothing really is it but then again probably built for accel round the streets

Fast and furious!?!? Double clutching?!?!

You want to watch Bullit if you want some double clutch heaven (and before anyone says it, yes i know it's not the mustang you can hear on the film but who cares it sounds fooking awesome and thats all that matters) :twisted::twisted:

basicly it was bollox...

you only need to do it when going down gears anyway...

i have to do it in mine due to a half knackered third gear synchro, it doesnt slow me down and double de clutching and heel and toe-ing is all part of owning an old car...
