Nettles Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Over the past few months that I’ve been a member of the OldSkoolFord collective I’ve read countless threads posted up by people who are pissed off with their OSF’s. I’ve always tried to give some reassuring advise about taking a step back and reassessing the situation and don’t give up. But it’s now come to the point with my own project that I find myself in the same boat. I’m now considering throwing the towel in and giving up!! The problem isn’t with the knowledge or the mechanics, it’s with the funding. I’m finding it so fooking hard to raise the cash I need. Every time I manage to scrimp and save enough cash to buy the components I need something else crops up and the cash gets spent. For the last few months I’ve been saving up to buy the hub conversion kit and the front dampers I need so that I can get my chassis up and rolling. I managed to save £450 and I was about to order the parts when I discovered that I’ve had no MOT on my daily driver since the begging of March. So I took for a MOT and was then told three of my tyres needed replacing. So down to Kwik Fit I go and £330 later I drive out!! With the cost of the tyres plus the MOT I managed to blow £380 leaving me only £70. Also the road tax on my motorbike expired at the end of May which is gonna cost me another £64 and the insurance on my daily driver is due at the end of next month which is gonna cost me around £400! This is the third time I have had to spend my OSF savings and I’ve just about had a fooking enough. It’s just starting to feel like that this project was never meant to happen. Every time I save some cash I get kicked in the the round ones! I know I should listen to my own advice that I’ve given to others in the past, but I really am ready to give up…..Rant Over!!!
Pye Man Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Never rains, but it pours. What a ball ache . Hang in there mate. It will be worth all of the effort and heartach.
mk2_escort_chick Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Neil- you cant give up!!! Just take a break from it all for a lil while and start saving like mad!!!!! Just think of what your car is gonna be like when it is done- it's gonna be the mutts nuts!
Admin Vista Posted June 5, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 5, 2007 First of all, £330 for three tyres ?? WTF are you using as a daily driver? I've just replaced two of mine for £65! Anyway sorry to hear of your frustrations, I know exactly how you're feeling as I was there many times with my first project car. On one or two occasions I got sooo close to throwing in the towel, but there were two things that always stopped me and these are what I suggest you think of before placing the fateful ad 1) You almost never get back what you've already spent 2) Somebody else will benefit from your hard work and expense as part finish projects are always cheaper to complete than fresh ones Keep at it mate, just extend your time scale and you'll get there in the end, I think my first one took 4 years for one reason or another.
old skool freestyler Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 keep in there mate ive almost sold mine twice now but just cant seem to do it just have a little break from it hope it all works out for you mate
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Hhhhmmmmmm, I believe you have replied to one of my Pain In The Ar*e Anglia threads recently! As you will know, I was at a similar point a couple of weeks back, I am still there in fact LOL I have dumped the Angle Box in the corner of my garden, and I have told it to sit there and have a long hard think about what it has done (pointing my finger about alot)... needless to say, it has got the sulks, but I don't care. I am now a bit more chilled within myself after dumping it I don't know what the situation is with yourself and transport, but it sounds like a bit of prioritising may help. You mentioned your daily driver, well, get that legal, and put the bike on SORN. It is going to be hard, I ride myself & the weather is definatley here for it, but it is in a good cause. Once you have the parts you need, just re-tax the bike Keep at it mate, I would love to see more progress on it. Best of luck
mk2_escort_chick Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 KEEP IT OR I MAY HAVE TO KILL YOU!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA... ...sorry about that!
john_3.0s Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Unless you need the cash OR you are loosing your garage space just bide your time and hold on to it. You'll get the money together in the end, and just think every day that passes these cars are going up in value (of thats what I tell myself!) Im in the same position, 100 on dampers, 100 on a cooler, 200 odd for a new x member and mounts, 60 for an oil pump, 100 on an exhaust, handbrake cable, new radiator (ok it was only 20 quid ), 100 odd for a polybush kit, 60 for a coil over kit, new head lights, screen seal, paint, sand paper, filler, welding wire etc etc etc its fooking endless and then it'll need tax and a ticket with a set of new tyres and loads of other odds and sods no doubt. In fact i am so skint that none of my bikes nor my granny or capri will see any tarmac this year
Rick Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 wait til you see some of the cars going up the pod this weekend. thatl raise your spirits... were all in pretty much the same boat mate but as you can read in the projects threads, people do get to the end, the finish line may seem to be moving as fast as your working but eventually youl catch up./
Nettles Posted June 5, 2007 Author Report Posted June 5, 2007 Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Sorry to rant on but it’s just one thing after another at the moment. I commute 114 miles a day around the M25 so my Ford Focus (my daily driver) has to be maintained hence the new tyres. I know my bike isn’t a necessity but I’ve got to have a fix of some fun now and again or I would completely crack up, plus I do use the bike for the odd road trip with some of my biker buddies. I just seem to keep getting knocked back every time I take a step forward with the project. I have always wanted a “sit up and beg Ford” since I was knee high to a grasshopper, and now I own one I find myself getting more and more frustrated with every knock back. My dream of spanking it up Santa Pod seems so far off at the moment. Deffo gonna go to Pod on Sunday for a fix of OSF. Hope to see you all there.
Doc Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 mate im the king of problems when it comes to cars ..... Stick in there if you can ...
caprixpack Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 really feel for you mate, i use my osf as my daily drive so when things go wrong i have to sort it quick, few moths back i one of my leaf srings snapped so ended up borrowing my grans car and driving 80 miles to get a set of overpriced leaf springs and had to fit the when i got back as i was working the next day, another time the accelerator cable snapped on a saturday afternoon and was going to sommerset sunday morning was very lucky to get one, dont give up mate
mk2_escort_chick Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 You've just gotta hang in there dude, like I siad earlier your brum brum is gonna be the mutts nuts!

Nettles Posted June 5, 2007 Author Report Posted June 5, 2007 dont give up bud , youve got 9 years ! to beat yet
emu Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Stick with it mate. You said yourself that you've wanted the anglia since you were little. Think how you would feel if you were to sell up. Instant regret I beleive is the standard emotion. And consider that if you then decided to buy another, sod's law says you wont find one in the condition or for the price you sold for so you'll end up further back. Wait till CF, you'll be brimming with enthusiasm for weeks after Richard
