BIGKEV Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Went down last night to go pick up a spit for the escort ( thanks to the saint) - got down there fine then on the way back - the worst thing happened.... - I set Em's Sierra on Fire.... !!! Coming off the motorway - I realised that the throttle was stuck on and thought ....... SHIT .......tried to release it but it was stuck firm and the engine was revving its tits off at 4.5 thousand revs!!! had to attack the roundabout at oh around 50 ( not too bad you may be thinking ! - when you have a roll over jig in the back of your car and the accelerator is stuck fast its a bit of a different story! ) after filling my pants at the roundabout I then tried to get the old diesel to limp home - cos home was only 4 mins drive - but the car was rattling its tits off then I looked in the rear view and I couldnt see fook all - except black smoke - Again I filled my pants and there is still a clench mark left on the driver seat!! - I passed a pub but thought it would nt be nice to let a car set on fire in a pub car park so I limped further on to Hawley Lake ( an Army peice of land and threw it into the junction - its chucking up smoke now so much that I cant see fook all - so I release the bonnet catch and try and open the bonnet .... while i did this my hand free kit got caught up in the King grill !!! and as I was panicking like mad it wasnt the best time for that to happen .... I had turned the key but the bloody engine kept running so when I opened the bonnet I was desparately pulling at anything I could to make it stop but it didnt ..... It just kept running till it stoped itself at full chat - How disapointing - I was only saying earlier last night how reliable the old girl was.... Ended up ringing the fire brigade and they came out looked at it - put a bit of water on it and took me details - had to get me mate Rob to come and rescue me. Em now has no car as I borrowed it and i can feel he doghouse looming even though it wasnt my fault lol ... everything works except the engine and it stinks of oil - What shall I do - sort it through insurance or sell it as spares or repair or will it fix and then sell - dont know - what do you think ? At least I'm safe and Baby and Em werent in it
DEP Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Thats bad luck mate, glad you were ok, getting another engine is probably the best option, unless you can afford to buy Em another car, i sure she will understand mate.
Twinkle Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 gutted m8 glad you are ok, probably best to get another engine you know what insurance companies are like!
caprifan Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 ...mate you should be glad it happened because you borrowed it...just think if Em and baby were in the car....i would much rather something like that happened to me glad your ok bud
Mr Sam Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 sh1t, glad your ok and nothing but the car was harmed, engine out the scrappys seems the best bet unless you sell the car for spares
Messenjah Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 similar thing happened to us in the landy for us it was a seal going and oil being sucked into the engine or something like that best thing to do apparently is jam on the brakes and jam it into 5th to stall the f00ker we filled the entire a1m with smoke couldnt see anythign and had 3 fire engines turn up
Burns Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 yeah, i heard cos obviously a diesel don't work like a petrol, stop the car, jam it in 5th and lift the clutch. stall the bugger... although, might end up with your transmission on the floor glad no-one was hurt mate
john_3.0s Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 sounds like it was running on sump oil (assuming its a diesel) I guess a ring or something went when the throttle got jammed on. If its a endura I have got one in a mondeo that you can scavange for parts although it was making bad noises when u ran it last - it all yours if u want it.
EmmaOrbit Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Well all I can say is Kev is lucky the car didn't go up in flames and that he is ok. The other reson he isn't in the dog house is I'm not aloud to drive because of illness but as soon as I get the all clear from the Doc there will be hell to pay. So he better get his Butt into gear and get me a new car, maybe one that's worth £50 quid this time. Lol
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 ...mate you should be glad it happened because you borrowed it...just think if Em and baby were in the car....i would much rather something like that happened to me glad your ok bud Totally Seconded. That just doesn't bear thinking about. If it happened to you, it could have quite easily happened to them. Just drop a new lump in it, and all will be well again, glad you are ok mate. It is only a lump of Sierra shaped metal at the end of the day. That sounds harsh, but a life can't be replaced!
Doc Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I had a brand new rental van do that on the M8 at rush hour . What a noise ! then Crunch .... smoke !! Still think of it this way . Better the engine went on you than Em and Charlie eh ! It sounds like there wouldnt have been anything to prevent it happening so dont beat yerself up mate ..........
the saint Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 mate i cant believe what ive just read after we were chatting about how great the car was ect, i really am gutted but as you say it could have been alot worse if your misses and kid was in there ect. On a lighter note i hope you have fun getting your motor done on that jig
LUKE261 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 got a story 4 ya, my ol mans mate had a sprinter van, so whilst giving it a service he thought it would be good 2 clean the air filter, cleaned it with petrol, put it back in started it up, it reved its tits off!!! the petrol vapours, so its revving flat out, turns the key off, its still revving flat out, tried 2 stall it, all thats doing is slipping the clutch!!! until eventually that died 2!!!!! end of story!!
BIGKEV Posted October 10, 2006 Author Report Posted October 10, 2006 Christ - been buzzing all day - not knowing what i'm gonna do as to say we are skint is a major understatement.... The Rocker cover has blown spueing oil all over a hot exhaust hence the smoke - this is quite likeley the result of the engine burning its own oil as opposed to the diesel in the fuel tank - why - i dunno but have a few theories ... but suffice to say that I killed Em's car and Phil's old car ( sorry bud!! ) ta for all your kind words...
RFChris Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Sweet lord mate! Glad your okay though. Clearly it was upset that it was being used to further assist in the restoration of the XXX Chunder saloon! And O_H_C...when i give you £5.96 to "off" someone, i expect you to do a proper job. You rank amature you...... Glad your okay Kev. Chris
mk2_boy Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 sorry dude but i have never laughed like that for ages, thank you, on a serious not spares and repair it, will be cheaper in the long run! i think and less hassle thantrying to find a diesel seirra engine, not that avaliable, like pinto's or cvh's, buy her a new car, and a bottle of wine, and a bunch of flowers, job done...! coming from me thats good innit!
bashmk1 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 bloody hell kev, glad your ok mate. as everyones says sounds like its run on its own oil. if it ran till it stopped then the engine is knackered. might have even chucked a rod which is what normall happens. its gonna need a new un bud. best thing to do if it ever happens to anyone is chuck the car in 5th, hard on the brakes and stall it if poss.
MK3_DC Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Kev, sorry to hear the news but glad your ok, as i'm only round the corner, if you need anything, give us a shout.
looney_mom Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Shit, that sounds scary. Did something like that to my 1st capri on the m3 years ago. Like you say tho, Kev, it was a good thing that Em & the little one weren't in the car. That doesnt bear thinking about, at least you're ok and it is only a car after all
