Ade B Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Not the usual way, but can it be done? Just been offered a cheap set and could be handy on my Capri
Ade B Posted June 21, 2007 Author Report Posted June 21, 2007 Yeah that's the thing....... can you get one for that application? Usually used on FWD CVH's and Zetecs
tim Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 dont know what all the letter means after then but 40 are to small for pintos,
Admin Vista Posted June 21, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 21, 2007 dont know what all the letter means after then but 40 are to small for pintos, If it's a standard(ish) engine 40's aren't necessarily too small for it, they're just not ideal. A pair of 40's can for instance flow more fuel and air than the standard twin choke, but if you're going for any state of tune on your Pinto then Tims right and you want at least 45's.
Ade B Posted June 21, 2007 Author Report Posted June 21, 2007 Just now I'm running 150BHP on a rally cammed 2.0 fueled by a 38 DGAS! I know 45's are ideal but surely 40's would fuel better? (and calm down the mega lumpy tickover!)
Arched Escy Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 If you can get a manifold they'd do the job.Might need rejetting though.

(and calm down the mega lumpy tickover!) Lumpy tickovers are more from the cam than the carbs, 45's are ok, it's not till you get up to running 48's and 50's that you get grumpy carb syndrome lower down the rev range.

The tuner that set it up's theory was that a lot of the lumpiness was down to the small carb...... personally I always thought the 314 degrees cam duration was more to blame Would be interesting to see what behavior changes twin carbs would do though.
escort new boy Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 40s are fine and yeah the 45 manifold is the same
Arched Escy Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 40s are fine and yeah the 45 manifold is the same Who said anyhting about 45 manifolds?
BIG G Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 I tried this a few years ago. Bouught the carbs and made the manifold out of steel. you could make adapter plates for the IDF manifold but thats not cheap. As fo the carbs they ran great but were a bit tall for filters so binned them for my DGAS worked great but need must and the 45s followed. So my words of advise would be save your money for the 45s the best comprimise i have spent so much money on different systems
