stephens_xpack Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Just found a mk1 rs2000 for sale @ 15K. Makes me think back. My first ever car was a red 2 door mk1 with bubble arches with a souped up 1700 and went the nuts and i smashed it into the back of a dustbin lorry, but even before that I had managed to rip off a couple of the arches by driving like a 17 year old tw*t! I even drove it after the lorry smack but it caught fire on the way to work one morning - saved my sandwhiches but that was about it. Then there was my MK1 RS2000 also with bubble arches in blue all original with webasto sunroof, roll top seats etc the guy who sold it me asked me to look after it.......I had all the best intentions and started to strip it in my back garden and then just left it....they rotted easily when together it had no chance in bits and it wasn't that bad, it didn't really need stripping.... What the fook, if only we knew? Sorry to go on but after seeing that one for sale I just had to let it all out..I feel better now, NO - WHAT THE F*CK DID I DO.....ok I'm alright now. So I am responsible for the death of 2 MK1 Escorts.. I am so never letting the Capper go, never ever. I am not mad honest - hello is anyone there?? F*cking gold fish.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I have never let an OSF die... Although my Anglia Saloon is on life support in my garage.
johnny_h Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 was talkin to this old boy at work today who said he had an MK1 RS2000 and scrapped it when the sills went.
mk3tina Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 i think the prices are just a bit silly, same here though, im never selling my capri, it dies with me! its my first car and ive put too much work into it to ever consider getting rid of it, probably a pound of flesh and a few pints of blood and sweat dotted over the whole thing
stephens_xpack Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 If you dig deep enough there is always a silver lining, mine has to be the sarnies
Copey Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 never lettin my capri go, if it gets crahsed, it gets saved, even if its put in my dads mates barn for a while so i can collect parts, but i dont intend to crash
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 was talkin to this old boy at work today who said he had an MK1 RS2000 and scrapped it when the sills went. My wifes mates husband had a JPS Capri in his younger years and he scrapped that.
bomber1 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 both my stepdads killed a fair few in there racing careers

geoffersmasher Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 never lettin my capri go, if it gets crahsed, it gets saved, even if its put in my dads mates barn for a while so i can collect parts, but i dont intend to crash haha nobody ever intends to crash, not that i know of anyway
mk2harrier Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 found out not long back that my dad was given a mk2 gp4 shell, it was all kevlar and carbon fibre, it weighed next to nothing and was as strong as you like, unfortunately he replaced everything with original steel and scrapped the custom made kevlar and carbon fibre. i think he nearly cried when i told him what an idiot he is.
bortaf Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Hundreds Mk1/2 escorts, Mk1/2/3 capris, Mk3/4/5 cortinas, Mk1/2 grannys mainly cortinas though
Mick The Cabbie Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I passed my test in 1986. The roads and scrappers were full of the cars we love so much now! All my mates had Escorts etc. I'm pretty much the only one of us from way back then who never grew out of them! The ones which were in the scrappers didn't always have much wrong with em. Probably in far better shape than a lot of the cars that we try to resurrect today! Knowing back then what I know today, I'd ave robbed a bank, bought a hanger and filled it with all the ones destined for the crusher! Isn't hindsight is a wonderful thing... I recently aquired a 1984 copy of motoring news. The classifieds really did take me back. A real nostalgia trip! The cars and the prices would make you weep. 5 year old RS2000's with 30k on the clock for £3000. 10 year old Mk1 Mex's and RS2000's for £1200. 4yr old Chevette HS £3495. Lotus Cortina's £1200-£3000. Theres even a Manta 400 with 14k miles for £5300 Engines and parts too. All of it soooo abundant and soooo cheap! Theres 9 pages full of it!!! Even the old traders. Remember Mike youngs, Graham lepleys, Withers of Winsford, Quickbits(I worked there ) Peter Maiden cars(Vauxhall) even good old Burton power etc. I'll try to get the pages printed and laminated and bring em to some events next year
stephens_xpack Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 Yes hindsight, if only. I will try to find the old pics I have lying about and show you the 2 i killed, well I have a photo of the blue rs not sure about the red one. . Will post when I dig them out.
c1arke Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 well i can say only being 18 and being the (you no fook all kid) i love the old fords the DB9s of to day all computers and if it goes wrong you got no car for a month. but the good old ford goes wrong wat you do get your head under the bonnet and at most its off the road for a week. wat we got to learn is wats on the road nae that people keep scraping that will be in a way to replace the fords
mossy Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 im only 20.....have owned 4 so far...3 of em were gonna be scrapped! 3 are now running on the road....all except my own car...which is in my garage....hiding!
antz Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 ive never scrapped one cos im only 19 but my dadds had a fair few. my used to live on a farm and she drove a mk1 escort into a cement mixer and bent the chassis, had another (1300 gt!) for driving the hay bails about and a mk1 escort estate which she sold for next to nowt cos the engine was fooked...... STUPID MOTHER!
Stu_B Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Wrote of a capri laser a few years ago! Only other osf I've owned is my cortina & I don't plan on ever selling!
Pye Man Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Ive had to scrap two, both of which im deeply guuted about
Speedy1 Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 I've had countless cortinas, capri's and granadas over the years. Two of which were a mk4 'tina 2.0S and a mk1 granada 3.0 ghia. They were so cheap at the time that i sold the pair for £200. Look at the prices now
Silverback Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Never had an OSF before now, only thing that came close was a Chavette rally car with Pinto engine. Sadly I scrapped that, a move that still today I kick myself about. Big bro has had a few mind, remember about 15 years ago he built a Mk1 rally car from scratch with a Cossie engine in, 5 linked, coliovers the full schebang. Then he sold it as he couldn't get anyone to wire it up, no one on the Island had any experience with the Cossie motor so in the end he sold it for....wait for it.... £3000...
Gareth Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 I've owned a total of 4, (5 if you count an XR4i) and still own 3 out of that 4 now And outta all of them My GT is the only one I've not had to do any body work on for the MoT...... ...Instead it needs an engine rebuild
