Mick The Mig Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Just come back off holiday in northern Italy. Didn't spot a single OSF while there. Major problem was roads very narrow, even on the autostradda and the crazy b'****d's drive on the wrong side of the road. Still well done on your purchase hope it goes well for you.
Doc Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 i bought a porsche on my credit card when i was drunk ! Wife cut it up and i had to pay it off ! the car was shitter and sold for £800 on flea bay . Now i dont have a card as she cut it up and i have to beg for anything i want now Nae Luck pal.
Delotus Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 See honesty DOES pay. I'd get linched if my missus knew half of it!! Best of look bringing the car home, hope it was well worth the pertentail fall out with her in doors.. Tim
PaulAshman Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Yea, all the best with the journey mate. Look forward to seeing some pics when you get it back.
escysean Posted September 12, 2007 Author Report Posted September 12, 2007 Update I have decided to go on the 24th this month after my missus' brother's wedding to Italy with co-driver (BTW, thanks for the offer for keep me company to OSFs members!! LOL) I have ordered and fitted new tow bar to our Ford Focus, I am planning to bring the Escort on A-Frame towing bar like you see campervan with car attached on the back of the van. Anyone got A-frame towing bar for sale or let me borrow one for few days? Will it be able to cope with long-distance towing Escort back to Blighty? Will put up pics and story of my road trip!
Mr Sam Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 i genuiely made a mistake and bid £1000 for a car that was a pile of poo , i was spose to put £10.00 and missed me decimal point .....i said sorry to the guy and he kindly removed it easily done i stuck £14 in for something was about to confirm bid and it said £14,000 have fun dude
escysean Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 mate, speaking from experience you dont want to do the journey in an unknown car. its a bloody long drive through switerland and france .do yourself a favour and get a local transport company to bring it over for .cost should be around £700 . not too much when you thinlk of flights, hotels.fuel, tolls, food, ferry or train. plus the car getrs to you in the same condition. its unfair to expeact an old escort to do that sort of milage after been sitting for nearly 10 years. Can I ask how did you experience on bring that mint red mk1 Escort LHD from Italy that you are selling at the moment? Did you bring it by car and a trailer or low-loader truck? I was told it is illegal for my car, Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia to tow a car on a trailer or bring it with A-frame towing dolly attach to it?

escysean Posted September 29, 2007 Author Report Posted September 29, 2007 Hey.... I'm back home safe and sound with mk1 Escort from Italy My story as follow.... Left on Sunday late afternoon from my wife's brother's biggest and hugely expensive Indian Sikh's Wedding over 5 days of non-stop parties and exchanging gifts and custom etc to meet up Andy Pipe (From Turbosport) to collect the trailer from him (Wicked car, would love to own race-prepped mk1) Board the ferry in Dover, it was rather easy and straightforward trip over to Calais. Around 10.30pm, I set off for a very long and dark drive overnight trip over France, Belgium and Holland motorways, I got to worried a little bit when my top of the range TomTom gave me direction and I found myself going to Amsterdam...., but lucky me, it was change direction to autobahn in Germany Let you know my mate let me down at last mins due to his girlfriend went mental after hearing his plan to go without her, I had no choice but to go on my own!! Anyway, for safely reasons, I had plenty of rests and sleep for good few hours on the way to Italy. It went smoothly with no hitch. Enough of my blah, blah..... here the photos of my Euro trip, hope you like it? View of Germany Somewhere over Germany German/Austria Border Little town in Austria called W@NK!! (Pronounce in German as Vank) Over Italtian Alps Getting there to collect my important cargo Here the car I came for, with many thanks to Andy Pipe, aka andypipe for the loan of his trailer That the sight I would be checking my rear-view mirror And both side of door mirrors to make sure my precious cargo is still there on the trailer Finally few shots of my car at the driveway of my home Arrived home late afternoon on Wednesday, with over 2,030 miles of driving, not too bad for underpowered Focus trailered without problems The hotel owner who sold me his mk1 Escort insisted on me staying at his hotel overnight for free as he was concerned for my solo driving back home at late night, I had wonderful 5-star treatment with hot dinner and early morning breakfast for me More pics of interior and boot to come Sean
