escort21 Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Exhaust manifolds....are they any good?, anyone bought one?...in the market for one for my pinto cappa as i can't find a second hand 4 branch, they do seem quite cheap compared to burtons etc
Noodles Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 ooooooooo sore topic Iv got one they seem okay
boXXer Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i had a system on my old mk1 XR2, and it was a total pile of shite. Mate also had a system on his RS2000, and had exactly the same thing. Fitted totally shite. i personally think you'd be better off just going for the ashley equivalent.
Rick Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i have the crossflow one its seems good to me delivery was amazingly quick too... but going by other peoples opinions seems like i got lucky
escort21 Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 All i want is a pinto 4 branch that don't leak ...don't want to spend a million pounds, ashley want around200quid for one, rally design want 130quid and PL 75quid....are they all made from the same pattern?
jimihendrix Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Don't know about the manifolds but i've heard that the twin system for the V6 Capper does'nt fit too well past the rear springs.
Noodles Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Repaint it what ever you do they just dust over em in satin black
escort21 Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 Repaint it? are you mad! it'd show up the rest of the engine bay!...the cappas a run around....if it was the tina i'd paint it So Noodles what your saying is they fit ok?
Fiesta Steve Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i had a system on my old mk1 XR2, and it was a total pile of shite. I'll have to agree wth the Fiesta manifolds being not so good. For starters, I was not impressed when I looked inside the pipe and it had loads of weld protruding into the pipe that needed tidying. Then none of the bolt holes would line up so needed enlongating to fit. To top it off it sat so close to the sump that there was not even enough room for an exhaust clamp !!
antz Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 mines alright. paint is crap but cant complain about the manifold.
Baz. Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 crap service, crap product and god forbid you phone to complain coz the dorris on the other end will blame you, go to ashley direct
johnny_h Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 crap service, crap product and god forbid you phone to complain coz the dorris on the other end will blame you, go to ashley direct
Copey Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i have a peter lloyd on my capper, doesnt seem to fit properly, the tail pipe seems to point to the right a bit but the manifold seems good to me
beedz Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 aren't there a couple of people on here that make them?
Rick Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 lol i have to admit the welding is all splattered down the inside pipes but mines no record breaking engine so it wont make diff. i spose the moral is you get whay you pay for and i thought these were cheap so i expected no better than a quickly made product
Fiesta Steve Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 i spose the moral is you get whay you pay for and i thought these were cheap so i expected no better than a quickly made product Exactly, my Fiesta manifold was very cheap, and it looked it
Messenjah Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 get the cheapest one from ral des m8 quick delivery and i did have a problem with the holes not lining up had to get a ratchet srap round them and squeez um together but rang them up turns out theyre made by ashley aswell and they offered to send a guy round (same day) with a replacement free of charge when i rang before i got it to fit to blokes at ashley and ral des helpfull as u like and i didnt have an issue witht he manifold yeah its not gonna be amazing for power compared to the expensive ashley one as the pipes are smaller and the ends have square flanges on them lol but unles the heads ported wil tht even notice ...
Mick The Cabbie Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Since 1986, I've only ever used Ashley systems. I used to work at Quickbits race & rally components in Nottm. We sold loads of em. I think Ashley systems came out around the mid 80's when the other two main manufactuers were Peco who produced more of a budget system with crushed pipe curves or Janspeed(top quality system without crushed pipe curves). The Ashley systems where always on a par quality wise with the Janspeed ones but at a fraction of the cost! Who remembers the old bright red Peco HDR manifolds & systems??? ...and you could always spot a motor with a pukka Janspeed coz of the rolled tailpipe
kevmk2 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 crap service, crap product and god forbid you phone to complain coz the dorris on the other end will blame you, go to ashley direct I had that same problem with a set of minilite wheels that were not minlites, they were cheap and nasty replica's,when the new tyres were fitted the wheels needed more weights on them than geoff capes can lift So i rang to complain and send them back and i got an ear full from the bird on the phone and from some bloke in the background shouting his head off. One phone call to minilite's to let them know that P.Lloyd were advertising minilite replica wheels as genuine minilites soon sorted that problem out I got a full refund in the end and went to west wales
escort21 Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 ...and you could always spot a motor with a pukka Janspeed coz of the rolled tailpipe Got an original janspeed single box on my tina...lovely rolled tail pipe
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 surley you can't expect an exhaust will fit !!!!!!
boXXer Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 i had a system on my old mk1 XR2, and it was a total pile of shite. I'll have to agree wth the Fiesta manifolds being not so good. To top it off it sat so close to the sump that there was not even enough room for an exhaust clamp !! 100% spot on! i had to bend the manifold down as you couldnt get a clamp around it. GRRRR! crap service, crap product and god forbid you phone to complain coz the dorris on the other end will blame you, go to ashley direct I had that same problem with a set of minilite wheels that were not minlites, they were cheap and nasty replica's,when the new tyres were fitted the wheels needed more weights on them than geoff capes can lift So i rang to complain and send them back and i got an ear full from the bird on the phone and from some bloke in the background shouting his head off.
