finally picked myself up a pair of mk1 capri wings for spud so i thought id see just how bad it was under the paint

id always assumed the the wing has been done and that there would be a lot of filler on it.... but not this much

Where the filler stops at the front is where the wing used to finish... the steel finished about 15mm before the end of the wing

the wing was full of holes and had just been skimed over and where it was bad at the bottom they used THREE patches on a liny little bit

The two things that anoy me the most is that at the time this was done Mk1 capri wings probably cos about a 10er

i had to shell out shit loads for em

and the other thing is that there was a big dent behind the bumper where someone had bumped the bumper and the bumper bolt dented the car....

this must have happend before all the filler went n as it would have cracked AND THE STILL DIDNT FILL THE DENT IN!!! all that bloody filler and still they left it

Needless to say everything in the garage is now white and when my step dad gets back off holiday hes going to kill me :?

If you're taking it back to bare metal & come across filler put down the knotwheel & pick up a rubber mallet & screwdriver & knock it out - will save loads of time & mess

I just love this Forum! Where else would you find people boasting they have the most filler on their car??:lol:

I pulled a lump out the sill of the Cortina that must have weighed a couple of pound. 8" of the sill (in and out) and about a quarter of the arch (plus copious amounts of the daily mail ;))

Mark, if you want to hear about filler, have a word with Simon (Jubfab).

He's got a cracking story that involves a badly restored Standard 10. A great big tub of Isopon. A quick spray over. And a guy who travelled up to Yorkshire from Bristol and paid the asking price without even taking it for a test drive.

I think that´s happened to everyone before...must admit that bodge could have come from me.

In the "old days" when the OSF´s were just knackered old cars there was no way you were going to splash out (even if it was only a tenner )on a new wing (as they are welded in) when a tin of filler would get you through the MOT!

Do it properly now but not back then on the good old days!! :D

So come on, own up who was it??? :D

It's when you see stuff like this that reminds you why you restore a car yourself instead of buying the shiny "finished" car!

If you want it right you have to see it without paint to be truly sure.

The car's nose must have lifted an inch or 2 after removing all that filler
