omj624p Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 RANT TIME (i've not posted a rant yet ) I was overtaking someone on the A1 this evening. I was doing 70mph. I was rapidly caught up by someone who started tailgating me to get me out of the way. I'm in a 1300 fiesta so it's not easy to speed up and get out of the way. Then I noticed the word POLICE on the bonnet of the car behind me. NO BLUE LIGHTS OR SIREN When I moved over it accellerated and shot passed me. It was a female on her own in the car. So I pulled out behind her and tried my best to match her speed. My car said 85mph, my sat nav said 81mph. I started to flash her, but she didnt slow down. Instead she just started to tailgate the next person in the 'fast' lane. So I rang the police and reported her (hands free), I gave them the reg number and told them what wsa happening. She then moved into the left lane and undertook a few cars!!!! Anyway, later I get a call back from a sergeant who tells me ‘they’ had a prisoner in the back and were in a rush. I politely told him ‘she’ was alone in the car, to which he backed down and said he needed to check this out. And if 'they' were in a rush 'they' should have had the blue lights on!!! He agreed. When I said that if I had driven like this I would have 3 points and a fine, he agreed with me. But all that will happen is she will be spoken with about it. Grrrr. But at least I stuck up for myself and made a complaint. I hate it when the police think they can do what they like, and the typical UK citizen just sits back and does nothing. Well not me It makes my blood boil. Rant Over!!!
kidcos Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 maybe she was late for her tea break!!!!!!
G.O Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 strangely enough I was on the A1 heading southwards in the Stevenage area Sautrday morning when a police car came flying past us as though we were stood still - exactly the same as you found, with only the drive on board and no blue lights or sirens. We were doing 65-70ish, I reckon they must have been doing well over 95 the way they came past - really fooks me off they do this and get away with it, but what are we meant to do about it? Like you say, at best they'll just get a talking to before they get back out on the road and go do it again
d_kni004 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I think this post is a little wingy whiny namby pamby esque?! Any one agree?
johnny_h Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I think this post is a little wingy whiny namby pamby esque?!Any one agree? I agree. As much as I hate all Police (bit of an exaggeration Daggle ) they are doing a job. If they were in a civvy car speeding off duty then fair game.
bmxdave Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Yeah but its not ok if they dont have a genuine reason. I understand if theyre trying to get somewhere without raising alarm, but travelling at those speeds along such a road they should have the lights on, and once they get near the location they should knock them off. I think its unacceptable.
Copey Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 tbh i just think people do get annoyed because they are jelouse that they cant get away with doing it
antz Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 tbh i just think people do get annoyed because they are jelouse that they cant get away with doing it yep i feel lucky that north yorkshire has not one static speed camera and the mobile oens you can spot a mile off
omj624p Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 I think this post is a little wingy whiny namby pamby esque?!Any one agree? One rule for them, and another rule for us??? It's not on. If it was a one-off then fair play, but it happens to me very regularly round here. I play by the rules of the road, I signal to change lanes, and stick to the speed limits. SO SHOULD THEY. If not, then why should I?
omj624p Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 And anyway, this time it was blatent bad driving. 1. Tailgating 2. Speeding 3. Undertaking All within 10 mins. Is this a good example from anyone????
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 she was probably rushing to set up a camera trap in the bus lane !!!!!!!!!
ratman Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Good on ya boy sticking up for your self Back in the day a spotty copper pulled me in my G/F mk2 escort and nicked me for a loud exhaust (ok ok I had cut the center box out to make it sound loud ) so I took all his sh1t and went on my way 3 days later we got a call at work from the police to a dead body the guy had been in the flat for 4 weeks It was proper rank maggots fly’s the lot and who had broken in My spotty copper There he was re-living his breakfast & lunch on the front lawn Hello said I not feeling well officer you look a bit green JUSTICE
Mr.Sumo Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Fraid i agree with OMJ on this one , fair play on you m8 ( no offence intended Daggle , theres always a bad apple in the basket ) Slightly contratictive i know , but , seems its always one rule for them and one for the rest of us . I mean , who read the papers about the copper on a murder charge...mmm...let out on bail then goes and kills his Mother in Law and then shoots himself...having already threatened suicide Need i say more .

They said he got bail because if he had been sent down he wouldve been abused. I say too King right he would and too right he shouldve served his punishment straight away. I always thought there was facilities for such people similar to solitary confinement but a proper cell, like that fella who killed the two girls in manchester. Hes got his own cell. It really is one rule for them one for us but theyre not all bad, just the odd one ruins it for the rest. What happened to the proper policemen from days gone buy who you could actually approach, and would tell you off before prosecuting you, and never acting a tit.
JAY PS Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Did the same thing last year a brand new Astra Diesel met police car came past me at approx 70-80 mph in a 50mph zone with some hurry on ,no lights or blues ,siren etc ,so i followed him in my ex-met BMW to Tolworth and phones Kingston nick ,hed been driving only a few days and was out on his own for the first and last time ,he was taken from driving and put in the station until he took another driving course I say report the fookers as they would us !! They should have a sticker saying hows my driving!!!
bortaf Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Be perfectly honist, who here would not and do not speed when and if they can get awayy with it? I know i do, never been caught and for the last 5ish years i havn't had a working speedo and i know dam well if i was a copper i'd be foot down as often as possable Sorry it's sour grapes we all speed when we can, as in fact you did today! you said youself 81MPH
omj624p Posted January 15, 2008 Author Report Posted January 15, 2008 Be perfectly honist, who here would not and do not speed when and if they can get awayy with it? Thats not the point. They work as 'Law Enforcement', we dont. Are they allowed to take items from shops without paying? No? Why not?
john_3.0s Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Be perfectly honist, who here would not and do not speed when and if they can get awayy with it? Thats not the point. They work as 'Law Enforcement', we dont. Are they allowed to take items from shops without paying? No? Why not? exactly, the police should lead by example in a civilised democracy. Nobody would object to them speeding with the blues and twos on in an emergency but on a busy road with out is dangerous (well that’s what they would let you believe whilst writing u a ticket)
mossy Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Dude...I completely agree! one came up the back of me...(i was doing 80 overtaking already) It was so close i lost the bonnet in my rear view..Single bloke driver, no blue and twos. Needless to say he didnt like it when i slowed down to 60mph and he couldnt get past! They think because the are the police and in a marked car they can do what they want!
over_head_cam Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I think this post is a little wingy whiny namby pamby esque?!Any one agree? Not really. See someone blatantly doing something wrong/illegal/dangerous? Report them, copper or not And as a side note, the police forces of this country have my upmost respect, I probably couldn't do their job (although most of us think we could ) But everyone has to abide by the rules IMHO
Daggle Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Geeez its posts like this that make me think why do i bother , what is the point in me trying to do my job knowing that ppl are out there just trying to report me!! Yes I do travel in excess of the speed limit without lights on and siren off, but sometimes you have to overtake some traffic. Normally disq/drunk drivers won't pass a Police car if they see one sitting at 55mph. Thay will just pull in behind it. That's why sometimes I travel at 80ish. Sorry to everyone out there but I regard my driving to be of the standard that would allow me to still control a car at that speed. Oh and for all the wingers, its not breaking the law IF the vehicle is being used for Police purposes.
omj624p Posted January 15, 2008 Author Report Posted January 15, 2008 Daggle, dont get me wrong, I have absolute respect for the police and have had to ask assistance from them a few times recently. And have always nothing but praise for them and their efforts to help me. This is not just about speeding, it's about the tailgating to get me out of the way, and the undertaking, and the general bad driving of this one individual. I often see police going faster than the limit, and you can see it is mostly safe and done in a 'proper' manner. This incident wasnt. It was rush hour, it was wet, and she just wanted to be somewhere quickly, and that was no way to drive. In which case the blue lights should have been on if it was for police business. Honestly, this isnt a dig at the police, it was a dig at her abusing her power. I respect the law. And I try my best to do as I should because of this respect. I try to drive within the limits, my car is in working order, I pay my tax, insurance, MOT, etc. So if I can do it, so should she. Mind you, a female blonde driver, says it all really
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 No one drives at the speed limits anyway , i drive my van around all day and speed allday
