I saw in retro ford this month one of the capri meets at the ace cafe and apparently only a handful if not one mk2 capri turned up!

just wondering what peoples' opinions are on them and why this would be...

Only one Mk2 Capri turned up because unfortunately the Mk2 Capri Register were abroad at a show.

The Mk2's seemed to be the most unpopular of the Capri range.

For this years Ace Cafe Capri Day details, have a look in the 08 events section of this forum.

i usually prefer a mk3 to a mk2, but in some colours they look awesome

a black mk2 S, for instance, better than any mk3 in my eyes

also the mk2 X pack is an awesome looking car, much nicer than the mk3 with the clumsy wrap around bumpers

a lot of the more mundane colours / trim levels make the mk2 look uglier

just be grateful we didnt get the US spec 'surprised' headlights and ENORMOUS safety bumpers on our mk2 / 3 capris

I have owned both mk 2 and 3 3.0S`s in the past and when the time came to buy another I went for the mk 2.

Proper old school, no tacky plastic trim

I actually prefer the front end (with the adition of the sport spoiler).

The mk2 actually sold more per annum than the mk3 did in most if I recall correctly except perhaps for one year. But it was generally unloved and a bit like the later cortina they were scrapped when they reached the end of their life. This was probably because the mk3 Capri was still in production so rather than save a mk2 you could buy a mk3 cheaper.

But the rarity is good, as now it is the most exclusive one to own.

Sadly, it is indeed because they were deemed 'ugly' which is ridiculous. In my eyes the MK2 is a much better looking car, if a little less aggressive. In fact, back in the day it wasn't uncommon to graft a MK3 front onto a MK2, the irony now is that it's very much the other way round.

It is sad that they have been looked down on the past, but it only serves to give us MK2 owners a really nice slice of exclusivity these days.

As for not seeing them about today, i can;t answer that one.

All i can say is that my 3.0S will be out and about at every given opportunity, no if's but's or maybe's! :ykt:

A ) they are rarer than mk1 or mk3

B) The mk2 3.0s is now one of the most wanted capris

C ) early mk3s were just dealer re -engineered mk2s in fact !

D) My Favorite !! There is in fact no such thing as a MK3 as the model known as that was officially the MK2 Facelift model .

E) Not agressive .........LOL 8)

I recently had the offer of swapping my ugly fronted mk2 3.0 ghia for a mint 85 2.8i. I chose to keep the mk2 as there seems to be mk3 cappers every where and at each meet I have been to so far I had the only mk2 there :D

She was proud to be representing at the Ace

The mk2 is the best of the capris :D , especially with the right rims. The chrome work brings out the finer points of styling and the rear lights look cool
