sab6024 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 No because i pop round my parents to pick up my tax reminder I've just remembered all mine are registered at my dad's address......I'm a dumbass
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 26, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted February 26, 2008 I just had this reply from Sutton Police: Thank you for your email. Can you confirm whether a vehicle has been stolen or unusual interest is being shown to it. ? If a vehicle has been stolen I will need more details from you - you can either ring us - 1. Telephone 0208 649 1212 and you will be connected to the police exchange. 2. Ask for the Control Room at Sutton Police Station. (They will connect you to a call handling centre under a system known as Metcall). 3. Explain to them the circumstances and tell them that you would like to make an allegation of crime under the Computer Misuse Act. 4. They will provide you with a call reference and forward your details to the Telephone Investigation Bureau (TIB) at Sutton Police Station. 5. The TIB at Sutton Police Station will contact you and take the details to substantiate the allegation. You should provide them with sufficient details to prove/show that an offence actually took place, or you can report it on line at https://online.met.police.uk/ However if it is just unusual interest being shown to these cars, please let me know the exact location and I will ask the safer neighbourhood team to get in touch and give advice.
FredTransit Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 The best thing to do is resister the car in your name to your parents or relatives address thats what i do...no getting traced that way Bit of a bugger when you have to insure it then TAX it I would imagne sab mate nobody is suggesting you use some random address, just one different to where the car is kept . We have a business address, and all the vans and cars are registered there, we have no problem with getting tax reminders or insurance. On that note, I can recommend getting a box number and registering cars there, it's legal as long as you can be easily contacted by post there. they don't cost a lot, and it's worth it for peace of mind. Also if the car is kept at the address it's registered at, it's worth blanking out the number on any pics you post. Why make it easier for them?
Rick Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 why dont the police just put a radio message out asking there patrol cars to look out for the suspicious vehicle. whats all that bullshit?? write back and tell them not to worry themselves we'l sort it out our own way
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 26, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted February 26, 2008 I will reply with the information that I have been sent but I need those people who have given me info to be more specific about the areas these incidences have happened and dates please. The more information we can provide, the better chance we have of being taken seriously. I need your help here please
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 3. Explain to them the circumstances and tell them that you would like to make an allegation of crime under the Computer Misuse Act. You did tell tham that someone was stealing CARS and not just sending you malicious emails....? I just don't understand that bit. Or is it an email copied from someone who did allege a computer crime??
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Oh and if anyone sees anything suspish, like the 4x4 or someone taking an interest in your car, try and take pictures with your phone.

Or is it an email copied from someone who did allege a computer crime?? I told them that a car had been stolen but that has already been reported and being dealt with so my main concern was the information we have on a suspicious vehicle and occupants approaching people in the area about the cars ..... it's not a crime though is it until the car gets nicked . WE can only advise them what has been seen, heard and done and we need times and places so they can log the info and pass it onto the bobbies on the beat. The computer misuse bit comes (I think) from the fact that we are a web-based club and I assume she thinks there has been some online misuse with the Shogun people asking on here about the cars

Cortina Girl Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 If these ba**ards are using this & other sites to get info from the DVLA etc from reg plates, then even if we remove our location & reg plates from sigs, when the next batch of meet pics are uploaded they will all be on show again. Unless they are not posted without having reg numbers removed first. Even then with the amount that are already on the site, it will be a bit like bolting the gate after the horse has bolted. Let`s just hope they are caught soon. I would love to be with whoever does find em, fink I`d borrow my other halfs steelys for the job
Rick Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 i dont think the reg plate blanking makes much difference to be honest, they can spot your car out and about and note it down or from pics from another club/website/magazine just keep em secure

Guest MK1gaz Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 They will probably put a parking ticket on the thieves low loader though !!!!!!!!

A few years back a guy at the Great Dorset Steam Fair had a rare motorbike stolen at the show. Walking around the trade stands he picked up an item on a stall, went to the next stall & picked up another item, walked away & returned a few minutes later with a police officer. He picked up the item from one stall & showed it to the officer & told him it was from his bike, when he challenged the Irish seller he denied all knowledge that it was stlen & claimed he'd brought it with him, at which point the chap turned it over to reveal a unique symbol on the item which he had added whilst restoring the bike! He managed to recover a large amount of his bike from 3 stalls in a row, all owned by Irish pikeys! The pikey gits had stolen it the night before & completely stripped it overnight! The owner putting a matching mark on each item is what got his parts back & managed to get the pikeys convicted! Put a post up about contacting ports in the stolen room, would be good if you could keep an eye out
