And thats with some proper power me old mate

If anything the instant grunt from an atmo engine is more likely to brake a shaft than with a turbo'd engine, because its not so fierce off the line

Well my engines fierce and instant on take off so i won't bother with anything grippy in the tyre department then  . Shame really as i would love to do a hard launch at the Pod at 9000revs as it would sound wicked !!!!!!!!

Big Jon in the yellow mex with RS2000 16 vlave engine done that on Hossiers and it just wheelspun  then bogged down, too long gearing in the box

Do you think an £1100 18 spline tran-x set up with grippy slicks will be strong enough for my heavy car though ? Surley the weight of the object your moving plays a role in the breakages then ? Are there any engineering/clever sods on here ? If so what do you lot think ?

Hoping i can to still do a 13.5sec run just pulling away sensibly and thus saving myself £1100 for now until my credit cards paid off  . Good luck with your new mk1 mate . I know what you mean about buying someone elses car though , my mate still calls mine "his old car" even though the only thing left of it is the body and seats !!!!!!!!!:lol::lol:

I'd be prepared to concede that you THINK you win them, but as you cause most of them in the first place it's hardly something to shout about is it?

Just a thought, how about just getting on with things like most others do?

G A Z me old china, It all depends on the age of the shafts and what kind of stress they have had in their life and whether they were put back the same side when removed etc. There is no gaurentee mate!.

Save your money for now as I am in the process of getting some shafts drawn up for manufacture! 1piece 18 spline unbreakable badboys for budget racers!

cant you just change the sidegears?

thats what my mate with the mgb did when he went to 18splines

If you have the right diff to accept them. The shafts are almost the same diameter as the inside diameter of the bearings on an original plate type slipper, Tran-x put bigger ID bearings and ends on their diff. I'm not sure about ATB's. :?

im talking about converting to 18splines from 16spines when using the stock open diff with a Phantom diff locker

so as its the stock diff its possibly different and not as complicated?

ive just ordered a diff lock from Cambridge Motorsport Parts so ill be able to comment on the install soon :)
