Some of the right Mustangs are damn fine looking, but IMHO they're best left that side of the Pond. Show em a corner and any good European sports car will eat them for breakfast.

I do love a yank tank but would'nt really want to see em in a mag I bought to see good old British metal

Sums it up for me and as muscle cars go Fords are well down my list, give me a Camero or a Cuda any day of the week, or any proper Mopar

Got to agree with you there mate, although I love the early mustang, the american OSF's just dont quite cut it for me.

Fed up with stangs tbh - you can get to a point of saturation with some cars and i'm at that with stangs.

 

I'm loving the '53 F100's and 3-window coupe's, the 37's and 39's.

 

The galaxy is a bit bland imo, although the falcon is cool enough. Although for me the ultimate cool 'ford' for me is the 64 lincol continental

I kninda grew up with yanks, my brother taking me to watch the mustangs battling it out with Anglias at brands, it was great.

 

Personally I love yank cars, my brothers got a cobra rep with an 8 litre Lincoln motor which is mind blowing, but watching them on track is really fun in historic saloons. My mate has a glass 34 Ford which has been in custom car, I would think a proper one would be great as its a right laugh

but his cousin was a top builder of stangs and shelby's - he made all vents functional and painted the stripes exact - did you know they aren't straight? They change widths all the way over the car.

 

Im a purist when it comes to stangs though, it has to be 64-66 and only GT350 appeal to me, especially the black Hertz cars. The Galaxies are interesting to watch on teh circuit and thats what its all about - it'd be boring if classic racing consisted of Anglias Minis and Mustangs.

 

Upto the 1970s was a really interesting period in auto history too, after the war with all the hot rods being raced as there was nothing else but people suddenly had the means to do it, The fifties with all those fantastic styling cues and chrome plus the development of both style and engineering as well as all the lead sleds going into the sixties where performance became king and pony cars were suddenly being developed from shopping trollies in much the same way as the MK1 escort. Lets face it all the styling cues they came were followed by us later on, and for the states a new model was being develooped for every model year. And now the forward thinking Merc etc etc are copying the Galaxie Skyliner and T bird.

 

If I'm honest I was a tad dissapointed with the American Special that CF put out a while ago for lack of yank cars and history, and dont forget about the Fairlane Thunderbolt, a proper drag car that you could buy at the dealers! Crazy times. Obviously the brit tin is my main concern, and have to know that ppl are mostly bothered about them, but its in a state at the moment that the scene over here doesnt recognise how many cool american classic fords, there are, and doesnt seem to recognise them as actually being fords, they're just yank tanks. My dad's always going on that he wants an F100 too. Maybe it would be good with the hoards of brit cars etc just to do one in the mag every once in a while, and maybe some historical articles on all the different trends, like one on the fifties styling cues and factory hot rods, the sixties muscle car wars and the pony car era, there's tons of stuff that would make good interesting coverage.

Love the Galaxie feature, just saw it in my mates copy of the mag (i'm fookin skint at the mo). Used to love watching them race, my brother took me everywhere to watch his mate racing a mustang back in the early nineties when I was ten, Gordon Streeter was in the same series and watching the big yanks power off on the straights only to be harassed on the twistes made it great fun to watch. Promised I'll do meself a race Anglia or Stang one day. Keep it up
