72mk1escort Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Ive just got back from having my Escort Valued by Peter Ridgewell at The Sporting Escort Owners Club. First of all he charged me twice as much as he should of for fuel and then said my car is only worth £1750 I rang him and he is sending me half of the money for the petrol back because he added it up wrong which is fair enough but i still think saying my car is only worth £1750 at the most which i think is an absolute joke. Im sure anyone with half an idea knows its worth far more than that. Its very disheartening for me after all of the hard work and money i have put into the car He didnt even ask me what mileage the car had done, how many owners it had had. He just literally looked over it (visually in about 3 mins flat) so how can that be a fair valuation So im not the happiest person in the world
DAZZA Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Hello mate, yes you have grafted on that car. But its how much its worth to you, we never always get our money back in this game. Having followed you in convoy and the looks you get......... thats priceless bud!
72mk1escort Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Its just that if i had of known he was only going to value it at that i would'nt have bothered he said the reason its only worth £1750 at the moment is because i have not yet sprayed the engine bay He said with the engine bay done it would be worth £2800 roughly i dont see how the engine bay not being done can make it worth a grand less (after all its only a bit of paint) Thanks for the comments on the car Darron Youres looks good when were in convoy too
DAZZA Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Have to question the guys valuation ability, im sure an engine bay freshen up would add some value.... but a grand is questionable? Anyway, in the greater scheme of things the value will only increase
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 My mates escort is the bollox and the sporting escort gezzer valued it at £5000 last year !!!!!!!!! . It's worth £10,000+ allday long
andygfc Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 How much do you think it's worth then ?? Personally I don't think that's far off., just because 2 door models are fetching silly money (too much I feel) doesn't mean 4 doors should follow suit. The problem is, everybody looks to ebay and thinks their car is better than the latest one sold, and so worth more. As the saying goes, 'it's worth what ever someone is prepared to pay'. Just my thoughts.
72mk1escort Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Anyway, in the greater scheme of things the value will only increase I guess thats one way to look at it
72mk1escort Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 My mates escort is the bollox and the sporting escort gezzer valued it at £5000 last year !!!!!!!!! . It's worth £10,000+ allday long WTF! Thats ridictulous How can he be in business if he gives such low valuations
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 He loves them if it's a type 49 "Mex" etc .
72mk1escort Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 He loves them if it's a type 49 "Mex" etc . How much are they worth then £3000
Admin Vista Posted March 14, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 14, 2008 He loves them if it's a type 49 "Mex" etc . Don't be ridiculous Gaz, the Sporting escort owners club is there specifically to cater for owners of non type 49 "Mex" etc cars CLUB HISTORY The Club was formed in April 1985 to cater for non RS / A.V.O. Mk1 and Mk2 performance Escorts to at least 1300 G.T. spec. Sorry to hear you're dissapointed with the valuation he gave you, just keep in mind that it is just one persons opinion and a car is worth what you can sell it for when you come to part with it. At the end of the day do you really care what he thinks?
72mk1escort Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 From what i herd from other people he is the only person that does valuations on MK1 Escorts
Admin Vista Posted March 14, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 14, 2008 From what i herd from other people he is the only person that does valuations on MK1 Escorts Maybe so mate, but it's still just his opinion.

Very true But i need a better valuation than that to be honest as lets face it its deffinitly worth more than that
Admin Vista Posted March 14, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 14, 2008 What's the purpose of the valuation? If it's insurance does your insurance company insist on a independent valuation? Footman James accepts self valuation up to a limit of £15000, you supply them current photos of the car along with your completed valuation form. They research it and will accept your valuation based on their findings. SEOC website places the following guides on a mk1 4 door, where would you estimate yours is? Model Mk1 Basic 1100/1300 Class 1 £3500 Class 2 £2000 Class 3 £1250
72mk1escort Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 Well i would say just under class 3 I would put it at around the £2500 mark to be honest Due to the fact that its only done 40,000 miles genuine from new and has only had 3 owners from new including me. And it has had a total restoration. The only thing left to do is spray the engine bay so its got to be worth that at least
MEXY867M Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Dont be gutted mate its yours and be proud of her, dont like to admit I have known peter for afew years and yes his valuation is shit but so is his eye sight now days and will admit I left the seoc to join the best club going (oldskoolford rules).

Chud Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Hiyah mate I hope you don't mind me getting in on this ? But i've recently had a similar problem on a valuation from the MK1 Cortina owners club (which by the way is a wicked club & i cannot sing their praises enough!) on my GT.After sending some photo's of her via an e-mail she was valued at around £2500/£3000 & i was questioned about if the car was a genuine GT or not and that i was trying to deceive them!! Obviously i was a bit peeed off about this but i thought i don't care as i've spent the last 5 years restoring her and was'nt interested in selling her anyway!! Anyway at the MK 1 National Rally the chap who valued it found me and said he had made a mistake and it was worth considerably more as an independent insurance company had spoken to him about increasing value's of our cars in recent times.Don't take it to heart mate it's your car at the end of the day and if your happy about owning your MK 1 and spending your money and time on it what does a valuation that pulls a figure out of the sky matter!! I've spent a lot more on my GT than it's probably worth but for the grin factor & owning a classic FORD well makes up for it!! Sorry to RANT on,i feel better for that
escortmad79 Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Could be worse, it could be motorbase's valuations! Guest MK1gaz Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 SEOC general price guide: http://www.seoc.co.uk/priceguide.htm Useless really as it only covers standard spec motors which no one wants anyway !!!!!!!
mossy Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 as said HIC gave me a valuation, all i did was fill in a form with some pictures and send it off to them. Worth asking your insurance company.
spitbarnatt Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 I spoke to the SEOC about valueing my 'slightly' modified Escort a while back, and he said that it won't be worth much more than a standard model. WTF? The guy has lost touch with the modified Escort scene. I agree that you can't expect to value the car at it's new build cost but it will up the value somewhat. I had alot of aggrevation getting a valuation for my insurance, the RSOC won't touch anything but an RS and the SEOC are a waste of time. In the end I took it to a local garage who did me a fair valuation there and then, sent that to Flux with a load of pictures and all the relevent forms and got my agreed valuation a couple of weeks later.
